Andrea Cox YES Haynes is absolutely a goddess and I will read any and everything she writes!

s.penkevich [hiatus-will return-miss you all] Oh wonderful and funfilled review! Glad to hear this one is good, I've been waiting for a trusted reviewer and this is the ONE, will have to pick it up. Love all the artwork, great selections.

Will Byrnes Thanks, SP. Some of these things are a lot more fun to write and gussy up than others.

message 11: by James (new)

James Allen Haynes and Greek literature are a perfect match.

message 12: by Jodi (new)

Jodi OMG Will! What a fantastic review - it's hilarious!!😂

Will Byrnes James wrote: "Haynes and Greek literature are a perfect match."
Yep. the combo of being a scholar in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Ancient History, plus being a stand-up comedian is certainly uniquely qualifying here.

message 14: by James (new)

James Allen Will, in the YA genre, I enjoy Rick Riordan's books. Fun way to incorporate the Greek myths.

message 15: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes Although I have been aware of those books, I have never read them. Anything that encourages young readers to first, read, then to learn something of our culture, has to be a wonderful thing.

message 16: by Linda (new)

Linda A breathtakingly marvelous review. One of my favorites on Goodreads. I loved this book and you did it justice. "Housewives of Olympus" indeed. 😂 Well done, Will.

Will Byrnes Thanks, Linda. Some books lend themselves to this sort of treatment more than others.

Thank you, Gayathri

message 24: by Lyn (new)

Lyn Elliott Great review, Will. I really liked Haynes retake on women in Greek myth, not sure I could manage a whole book on Medusa. I tend to suffer from outrage!

message 25: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes Thanks, Lyn

message 26: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Captures all my favorite parts - awesome review. Love Natalie Haynes and I suspect you do also. 5 star review on a 5 star book!

message 27: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes Thank you, Barbara

message 28: by Farah (new)

Farah V This is next on my list! A terrible fate to be assaulted AND forever be known as a villain. Retellings are my favourite genre these days.

message 29: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes There are many such on the market at present. Madeline Miller tends these fields as well. Definitely check out The Song of Achilles.
