Jared Besse Great review. Totally agree with this assessment. It was clear how many things were tropes or pulled from other fantasy but yet it was just still so fun! Can't wait for book two.

Akshay Oommen (HB Book Club) Wow this looks so good. Definitely want to read it.

Jacci Ferrantino I loved the review.... picked up on a lot of those BINGO squares myself but honestly....I found this book refreshing and new anyways....and sooo goddamn addictive

Kate I loved this book. While it absolutely contained all of the tropes you mentioned, he wrote them in such a way that you don't even care that it's clearly the kitchen sink of tropes book. Entropement, if you will.

Frederick I’ve been waiting for your review since I saw you were reading this! This review just pushed it up in queue for me to read haha

Mark Lawrence Kate wrote: " Entropement..."

:D

Ivana The only thing I missed was nuanced tenderness... (which I think is present in both the Sun Eater and the Name of the Wind)

Chris Maler This reminds me mostly of Red Rising. Mostly in regards to the obviously Roman influence.

message 9: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel Tincu Bro just please write another set in the world / style of the red queen's war ....

message 10: by John (new)

John Farclar This book was like Red Rising in a traditional fantasy setting. Mark Lawrence has written a review here. There’s nothing I could add. It’s spot on. He’s done our work for us.

Will Swardstrom Literally just finished this myself. Haven't written up a review yet (not sure I need to...it has plenty) but I was hooked from page 1. Very hard to put it down each day to go to work (grumble). It was also much easier to follow than his last series, which I enjoyed, but was a little dizzy afterwards.
