Great review - Urquhart is not a writer I know but I'm always interested to expand on my knowledge of Canadian writers.
OMFG! I have been looking on a regular basis to see if Urquhart has a forthcoming book. I finally gave up--and then I see your beautiful review, Krista! This sounds right up my alley, and thank you for making my day, my week!!

Thanks, Laura - I especially liked The Stone Carvers and Away; historical Canadian fiction with simply lovely writing.

Urquhart writes at the end that she was working on this for ten years, so I guess it has been a long time coming. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
Outstanding review, Krista!!! I've been waiting and looking forward to Jane's new book for YEARS!!! But I think the next 4 months will be the hardest wait of all! And now you've got me wondering who the real-life person is behind the novel's "Harp" character!🤔 Holy cow! That is intriguing!!😧

I hope you enjoy it, Elizabeth! (sorry for the late response - I'm not getting all of my notifications).

Lol, thanks, Jodi - I'm glad I've teased the right people with the mystery of "Harp">

Krista, I've just now finished this book and wanted to comment on your question about the Harp issue. (view spoiler) In your review you said "... something feels off about him being an officially unnamed secondary character..." but I don't know what you mean. I doubt anything I've said here will help, but since it was so fresh in my mind, I thought I'd send my thoughts. Now I'll have to attempt a review, which I just can't seem to make headway with lately.😟
Krista, I haven't seen you on Goodreads much lately. I hope everything's alright? Sending you best wishes!🌺
Dear Krista, I too found Urquhart's new book an exquisite exploration of how the mind can finesse the encasement of the body. And to equate the hard plaster cast with icing sugar was surely part of the recipe. I thought of Christopher Reeves exuding beauty and love after his catastrophic accident. You reviewed The Ghost Garden. It would be an honour to read your comments about my newest: Monday Rent Boy.
Krista, it was clear to me who the fictional character of Harp was modelled after. It bothered me throughout the book and will cause me to read more about the life of this scientist. I want it not to be true.
