oh my gosh thank you so much for this review. I dnf the book half way through a little while ago this year and I felt like I was going insane by all the five star reviews and lack of acknowledgement of the weird reverse racism schtik. I literally agree with every one of your criticisms. thank you for putting it into words, I couldn't. 😭
the writing made me go insane. I liked some parts of the novel but you cannot tell me it needed to be that long it needed some real editing.
and TAKERU just yikes yikes. just a mess.
the terrible exposition and redemption arc of takeru were SO BAD ew
Your 3rd point just screams “I’m American and don’t understand other cultures” And it’s adorable. Try go outside
misogyny and abuse exists in all cultures, buddy, so idk....
Giving redeemption to male characters like Takeru is so common in Fantasy, it should be called out more. But as always, men get away with horrid things as long as they have some monologue or some other nonsense, but they never actually do reparations.
