I've never been more furious over a scene in my life. Why would anyone write that and think it's funny? Ugh. Allergic reactions is not funny.

Simo It sounds perfectly horrible!

message 4: by Elle (new)

Elle Well , thank you for this review!!! I was starting to think I was just seeing things... But man , this girl... I want to slap her sooooo bad !!!! I know 20-something is not really mature , but she is borderline all teen angst and idiotism! It's rear to dislike a heroine from the start , but she made it so easy. I get that her actions were necessary to "make" the conditions for the arrange marriage perfect , but come on... She is just a brat , who wants to be taken seriously , but doesn't have the needed qualities to be considered adult-like at best. And Callum ... well ... he is mediocre at best , but pulls the arogant-asshole-smartypants-i-am-king-of-this-pond look perfect. DNF after the strawberry idiocy - no patience for bratty idiots.

*high five* Amen sister! Same. I can deal with bratty as long as there is depth behind it or growth to counter balance it. Obviously I didn't get far enough to see that but her sheer stupidity and selfishness was too much to swallow on top of all that. It felt juvenile.

message 6: by Elle (new)

Elle Hell yeah! I think it's kinda a trend to make characters like hers. I get it , I'm not that old and I remember " my idiot 20-something stupidity" , but come on immature doesn't mean lack of common sense! These kind of books are real guilty pleasure , but everything has some boundaries 🙂

message 7: by Colette (new)

Colette This review is so funny! It sounds like a horrible book with an equally obnoxious characters.

LOL! Thanks.

message 9: by Ishita (new)

Ishita This is perfect! I knew I should've let this book go after reaching this point too. Maybe Aida is the "bratty" child who has had a life of indiscipline and immaturity but what's Callum's excuse? 18 year old boys from NA have more personality and "power" so to say, than this 30 year old man. Scenes with Aida's brothers seemed a thousand times more exciting and hilarious than any of his. Anyway, good to see some of my thoughts reflected nicely by you!!

Thanks, Ishita. Yeah Callum was a flat cardboard who didn't sound like a 30 year old man. It was weird. The whole thing was weird for me. lol

Nordeen Just finished the whole book and I wished I didn't blind read this... I completely agree with this review. I hoped it would get better but 👎

Glad I didn't miss out on anything. Sorry you didn't enjoy it either and had to sit through the headache.

Kane Finally, some sense. I was reading this today and thought Aida is a child. No kidding, it was the first thing that came to mind. And I saw the reviews and sht “this was a phenomenal book”. I mean, did we read the same book? Smh.

Right?! I felt like I was in the Twilight zone. I mean yeah she's 21 but she was insane. I guess wacky high jinks is considered sexy enemies to lovers for some. :/ I know this isn't billed as New Adult but it very much read like a NA.

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah “Saved by the bell amateur hour” 🤣🤣🤣 hilarious, girl! I feel for ya, get that mafia man and kick screech to the curb! Lol

message 18: by Lover of Romance (new)

Lover of Romance This review is awesome haha I struggled so much with the issues you presented!!! I don’t get why so many love this book. I did like book 2 though

Thanks! lol Yes I actually loved Book 2. It was like day and night compared to this.

message 21: by Hazelle (new)

Hazelle Gosh i couldn't agree more! Literally made me think she was a child. She knew she was the one who started everything and yet proceeds to get revenge. All throughout this book, i just wanted to slap her maybe try to shake her brain up a bit, hoping to knock some sense into her.

♥ℳelody Hazelle wrote: "Gosh i couldn't agree more! Literally made me think she was a child. She knew she was the one who started everything and yet proceeds to get revenge. All throughout this book, i just wanted to slap..."

Agreed. Nothing about her or the hero was sexy. It all felt extremely juvenile.

Susan in Perthshire Brilliant review and I agree with everything you’ve said. This is drivel. Unplotted, poorly executed drivel. I also thought it was more YA and I guess that’s why I didn’t finish it.

message 24: by Hazel (new)

Hazel When I read about the fire incident, I gave up. I did not find it good/funny/intelligent in any way. And whatever you have explained happens next, I’m glad I did not stick to the book.

I was willing to give her a chance with that silly stunt but what happened to her brother and then that strawberry incident threw me over the edge. I was done DONE.

message 27: by Christina (new)

Christina Nørgård Lauritsen I just wanted to point something out, when you say it reads more as new adult than just adult.. it is new adult.. new adult is 18-29/30.. Aida is 20’ish and Callum is 30’ish. But by just aida being that age, makes it new adult. Callum is right at the edge, but yeah, their age is what makes it there :)

message 28: by Aishat (new)

Aishat Ajayi I was so close to reading this book because I saw so much hype on tiktok but thankyou for saving my time . I think my brain would have rotted if I had to read everything you just described

I know but it's marketed as an Adult romance. And it's an 8 year age gap but the hero acts just as immature and green as the younger heroine. :/

LOL! The two scenes I pointed out are apparently what made this book all the rage on tiktok and booktube. Trying to poison someone is funny and cute. Who knew! 🥴

message 31: by MarielleXO (new)

MarielleXO 😂 🛎️ that’s definitely one way to look at it.

message 32: by Veronica (new)

Veronica I'm at the beginning of the book but I totally approve. I keep reading just to laugh at the behavior of the protagonists

message 33: by Calla (new)

Calla Do you have recommendations for more tomboy heroine dark romances? I’m on the lookout but this is the first one I found.

♥ℳelody Calla wrote: "Do you have recommendations for more tomboy heroine dark romances? I’m on the lookout but this is the first one I found."

Hi Calla. I wish I could help! I've read quite a few romances with tomboy heroines but unfortunately none of them were dark romances. I've just started to dip my toe in dark romances since last year so I'm the wrong person to ask. :(

Howling Good Reads I’m up to the part where they’re on the pier and Aida has thrown the watch and i stopped reading to read some reviews because I’m having so many issues. Your review sums up everything I’ve had problems with so far, the only thing I was wondering was why the new cover has strawberries on the cover… so glad I read your review and can save myself waisted time reading this.

Yeah the strawberry. It's their "thing". 🙄

message 37: by Mina (new)

Mina Ozcan 1 word. Bland. This book was not getting interesting, I continued and continued, it wasn’t hard to continue it just didn’t give me by thrill or feels or want to continue. It just kind of remained mid throughout. This book doesn’t give a butterfly effect. If I hadn’t read this book I highly doubt anything would change. This book could have been so good if the writing style was different and the book was longer.

message 38: by Makayla (new)

Makayla Eichen Omg im so happy. im not the only one who saw this! 😭 This book was so bad i hated it . The characters sucked they were so immature, and something that surprised me was the illustrations! I had never seen such a thing in a book before. After a while of reading this awful story, i gave up. I refuse to believe anyone actually enjoyed this book.👎

Butterfly effect. I like that! Good reference. Yes honestly if the leads weren't written like flaming idiots I probably would have powered through. I read Book 2 and it was much better than this.

message 42: by Apola (new)

Apola Thank for this detailed review. Honestly I was skeptical about starting this book but after reading your review, yeah I'm not even gonna bother. Immature heroines are my biggest ick

Same. Preaching to the choir. Those type of heroines are the worst.

message 44: by Wendy (new)

Wendy I have just dropped this book after mere page 24! I can deal with headstrong characters that make you look up from a page and question their choices but no this girl is something else. Being destructive and generally stupid isn't a quirk nor is it cute.

I stopped after the pocketwatch theft , yeah I get it , enemies so you steal their belongings which happen to be family heirlooms but there was NO incentive or even reason to do this. Then to set a fire ... really?

I usually don't leave books this early on but I know I'll just be sitting there skim reading and getting frustrated

message 45: by Isabella (new)

Isabella Thanks for this review. Sounds like I’d find her insufferable as well!

Exactly. Her stealing the pocket watch for no reason then refusing to give it back when they were pummeling her poor brother was the last straw for me. I have never wanted to punt a heroine into outer space more. Jesus hell the sheer stupidity is unmatched.

message 47: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Canalesshimek Aida is still in college tho and she's 20 so she basically is a teenager

message 48: by emarni (new)

emarni this review is so real … i wish you read it all the way through tho just so i could read what you thought of the disaster that is the rest of this book lol

message 49: by Megha (new)

Megha Barman I'm never reading this book. Even I also hate immature, childish characters. Thanks for this review. You saved me money and migraine both.

message 50: by Sanha (new)

Sanha Khan Even i realised she was really selfish and childish thinking that she has a backbone grilling riona for working all day and being rude to her when she was throwing tantrums for the wedding dress, seriously her family is the one forcing her in a marriage and she was being rude to the one's who are paying for her mistakes and she was making it hard for them, what were they supposed to do treat her nicely after what she did? . She liked nessa because she was kind and liked no one else because they weren't but was she even civil to them? . Nope. Not at all. Hypocrite. At least riona and others are doing what they think is right and helping in whatever way they can not throwing tantrums for being called out on their mistakes and blaming others. Her and her brothers were the one who went to their enemies party without invitation, set fire to the house, stole the watch and they reacted accordingly and gallons would have reacted the same, maybe even more aggressively with that personality of hers . But it was really stupid when even the hero says later on that "she was right to throw the watch because he could have killed them both if she had just given it to them"........ Seriously, like he couldn't have done that after she threw it in the lake. That was plane stupidity, no need to justify it, most of all is the lack of guilt. Especially in Oliver's case, no I am not taking Oliver's side or justifying it, what I am saying is that he was obsessed and she knew it but still went on with all his stalkings and not taking action no it was not her fault that he became obsessed what I am saying is that she should have made an effort to stop it, like telling her family or her husband. and frankly he was more in need of medical help than dieing in fire, considering his childhood.
