Kira I agree with many of your points. There was so much happening on the last 20% that didn't totally make sense. Especially when the kidnapper said she was supposed to be his. Like how? He's not even in their "world" and how did he know so much about the Lord world? It didn't add up.

hmm.. yeah you're right he wasn't even in her world, maybe it was just someone her mom promised her to?

Annabelle Montgomery HOLY I thought i was alone, completely agree with all your points. So many unanswered questions and the last chunk of the book was like a hurricane of information just being thrown at us. Honestly by the end of it Ash became annoying... she was so... all over the place. In the end I didn't like her character.

Callie Dee I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was not a fan. You were spot on in your review, the first half was fine...the second half was a MESS. Did we ever even learn what the mom's motivations were? Was she just bored and hated her own life so she didn't want her daughter to be happy? And why did the therapist go along with it? AND WHO WAS BENNY EVEN? Like....come on make it make sense.

I want to know too. Her mom at the beginning was so OBSESSED with "her daughter being a sex addict"... that part was also annoying and maybe a little too much... I want to know her motivations so badly but...

Maybe you're right her mom was just bored? Or maybe in her mind having this guy r*pe her daughter before the ceremony would save her from being in the Lord's world?

What I do know... it was very messy and I wish it made sense ;(

message 26: by Nikki (new)

Nikki v I completely agree with you. I also feel like Ashtyn’ was so surface level. There was no depth to her or like character development. I truthfully don’t see why or how the spade boys became obsessed with her lol Which I guess makes kinda sense since the book was more about the spade brothers?? Idk but I agree she went through all this trauma and then went straight back to Saint and f**cking. Which is wild. Lol

message 27: by Keslyn (new)

Keslyn Howard I’m so glad I’m not alone here. I keep going over things in my head and I’m so confused and the beginning was so perfect that it makes me sad to read the end and see how messy it is. I LOVE these books and I was so looking forward to this one and the end left me feeling unsatisfied sadly.

I feel like we needed a good long monologue from Ash to Saint. I get she felt trapped when she shot him and left but like she really did them dirty and of course in part 2 once she is kidnapped and in harms way all the past issues just seem to disappear with no real communication involved (this feels like a common theme in some of these types of books). I mean I get Saint is harsh but we were expecting that from the Carnage men, but she also just up and shot HER HUSBAND. Didn’t even care if it killed him or not, I would have at least thought she would aim for a leg to just give her time to get away. So many messed up feelings from the characters in this book. These books are depraved and I love that but all the others work so well because the love is clear throughout almost the whole time, where with this one I couldn’t understand the motive of Ash and whether she truly loved saint or didn’t at times. We didn’t get to see much of the love interactions, more straight depraved smut (not complaining ;)) but it did leave some holes for me considering she was scared he might throw her to the side because someone else knocked her up, so she just shot him and ran. Then was seemingly happy on her own basically (except in bed). But then you find out she was actually married to this man?? Like girl what?

Who else was shocked by that by the way? That they just happened to be married?? I didn’t know what he was talking about when he would say Wife earlier in the second half and she had a ring on in Vegas. Like Wdym wife? Do the vows mean marriage in the spade brothers world or did they actually get married?? And then you find out that oh yeah they did get married actually…surprise! Yet somehow Ash still felt like Saint was going to find ANOTHER wife and kick her to the curb because she was raped? She also knew to an extent that he knew because she found out “he cheated the lords” so girl just go talk to him don’t shoot him and run” (this is where I think Shantel was stretching to create this new book) like ash you owe him an apology and an explanation of your feelings (would have loved to have seen that in the first epilogue. A “1 week/month later” situation. Where they both explain their time apart and she gets treated for her trauma and injuries from her time away, and then it ends with them finally having sex again and trying for a family).

And what is up with Adam and Haidyn?? How did Adam just bring him back to life? Did they plan the whole thing all the way back to when they hit the SUV Haidyn and Ash were in? Like that part was so confusing and so convenient? How did they bring a man back from the dead like that? Really really hoping we get some more info in Haidyns book because I am so confused.

And like who were those masked people she found dead when she was wandering around right before she left Saint in part 1? And why would the guards ever think she killed them and blame her? Confused again!

Add on: did we ever find out why Benny is important? Was he part of the team that helped the lady “train” the spade brothers after Ash left? I remember them noting how he knew where everything in carnage was and he had a way in somehow. So I’m guessing he is connected to it in a way? Maybe he was a masked person who helped train them and ended up following Ash somehow? Idk so distraught over the ending. Feels like Shantel didn’t plan on this story unraveling until her other books got popular so she had to jump through hoops to make it all seem like it works and it sadly doesn’t.

(In the previous books what Ash has done is made to be some life shattering crazy terrible unforgivable event and I feel like it’s hard to write that in a story where it all comes together in a happy ending. It’s possible but difficult and it wasn’t achieved here sadly)

My last note: this would have read really well as a reverse harem if it wanted to be. I would have loved to have seen the true chemistry between these characters. Sadly I think it was a true option but there was an opportunity for more books so Shantel is going that route. (Which I understand as well).

I feel this! But also, I just want to know wtf was actually happening so I might actually pick up the next one, even though I know it will just be a repeat of this book with every event that happened.

message 34: by Schaey Dickens (new)

Schaey Dickens I like the first half so much and then the second half was just blah.. I feel like I needed a flow chart to remember how everyone(not Ryat, Sin, and Tyson) tied into Carnage from the Lords books and what all they had done. I could have also done without the multiple chapters after she got back where it was the repetitive “punishment” scenes, they didn’t bother me, it just felt like unnecessary filler after the first 2 or 3.

This has potential Dark Kingdom spoilers if you haven’t read it.

What bothers me so much is the potential set up for Jasmine, she didn’t bother me because I LOVED her in DK. But through the whole DK series it seemed like she was setting up a relationship with Nite and now here’s Kash. I just feel like she’s WAY too headstrong and independent to windup with the Spade brothers.

Kayla (Kayuhlareads) I just finished and I am honestly so under-whelmed I am not sure how to even go about reviewing it haha!!!! Like it was good, but I am with you there was SO many plot holes that still didn't make sense. This book has burnt me of the over use of "Good Girl"

underwhelming for sure, which makes me so sad because I really didn't mind the first half of the book.

but hmmm you do make a good point though; even her captives were calling her a "good girl".. honestly didn't think much of it until you mentioned it. slightly over used, i agree

And yeah... Spade Brothers were hyped way too much especially when there isn't a coherent plot to back up the hype

Courtney Ballou My hang up is Laura. Why did she have the authority to “train” them after Ash left? What happened to the dads? What was up with Adam he just randomly appears when everything is going south?

The second half was just chaotic to me and I spent too much time trying to connect pieces. I’m glad I’m not alone.

Honestly completely forgot about the whole Laura thing.. the book was too long and so many things happened. But I'm hoping the whole Laura thing will be (maybe) explained in the next book but also... it will be a pain to get through all the same events again.. esp the ending ;u;

message 43: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I have a feeling jasmine was there because kashton is somehow going to make her his lady even if she doesn't seem to be part of the Lords world

message 44: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia シ Melanie wrote: "I have a feeling jasmine was there because kashton is somehow going to make her his lady even if she doesn't seem to be part of the Lords world"

Yeah maybe? I've heard Jasmine's in the Dark Kingdom books, which I haven't read, she's a part of the Kings of Las Vegas mafia scene more than in the Lords world (kinda assuming though)

message 45: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Young I think when she said “he cheated” she meant by faking the vow ceremony and it was supposed to originally be setup to make it seem like he actually cheated and that’s why she left before they explained the whole thing. There were a TON of plot holes tho, and they referenced back to The Ritual/Sinner/Sacrifice so much that there’s no way that this could be read as a standalone and not be confusing. I read them and I’m still confused. 🤣 also super confused about Benny. Like he got hired to SA her and just was obsessed after that…? So weird. And the references he made to watching the woman he loved die too?? Idk. His whole involvement threw me off. I feel like the fake Haidyn death was overkill too, and legit want to know where tf Adam came from.

message 46: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Hanes All of the above...

Ollie📚🖤 I feel like I have nothing else to add after the original review and the comments. I rated it 3 stars just because I was waiting for this book with so much anticipation. And that dopamine rush just never came😭😭 Wtf was all that suspense that never got explained? Like for real, I'm furious. Spade brothers were the most mysterious and promising characters in the previous books and, honestly, they did nothing for me here. Also Ashtyn's character is so poorly written, like I don't know her personality after 600 pages🤯 Oh hell, I can't believe this is a LORD book

message 48: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I don’t get how Benny was able to get into Carnage with Ash and Haidyn. Who was their inside guy when Whitney and Adam were locked up? The Spade brothers apparently made it so much more secure after Ash escaped but they were able to walk right in?? Doesn’t make sense.

Benny knew about how she was sedated during the branding and that wasn’t explained either. I guess he got that information from Laura? I don’t get why he would still be in contact with her after his job was done and why she would be giving him information.

Also very disappointed that we didn’t get more insight to Carnage as a city and how it runs on a day to day basis. It was so long but didn’t cover half of what it should have.

Anastasia シ Sarah wrote: "I don’t get how Benny was able to get into Carnage with Ash and Haidyn. Who was their inside guy when Whitney and Adam were locked up? The Spade brothers apparently made it so much more secure afte..."

This!! I agree.

Now that I'm thinking about this, maybe one of their guards turned. I'm referring to that one scene when one of them was almost stalking her? His name was Emerson and he was waiting outside her room. I forgot what happened completely but I found this quote when I was attempting to look for it just now.

This is when Haidyn texts Saint to "check the cameras"

"Once I get the clock on where I want, I push play. I see Ashtyn walking out of her room, and Emerson already waiting for her. He yanks on her, then shoves her forward. I pause it, place my earbuds in, and push play once more. I don’t want her to know that I’m watching the video by hearing the audio.

What follows makes my blood boil. Why didn’t she tell me what he did? Why didn’t I pay attention to him when he entered the office with her? My body tenses when he speaks to her in the elevator. My brothers and I don’t really give a fuck what happens to those that are here, but Ashtyn? I fucking care who speaks to her, touches her, and threatens her.

I wait until he exits and shuts the office door before I stop the video, yank the earbuds from my ears, and turn to look at her. She’s got her eyes closed, her body pressed forward, and she’s now up to three inches on the dildo. Drool runs down her mouth. The fact that she can’t feel her throat will cause her to produce more saliva than usual."

I think Haidyn "took care" of him though because as I was skimming it said Emerson 'was in a fight'

Also, YESS, I can literally imagine it; Carnage as a city, a whole separate world from the Lord's world would have been amazing! So much potential that the author didn't even think of honestly.

message 50: by Meaghen (new)
