Reverse harem is a hit or miss sometimes sorry this isn't the one for you. Great review, Meagan!🤍
I had the same struggle. I went thru the book just feeling bad for Jake and disliked Rachel more and more. I found her completely manipulative which is frustrating because I LOVED her in That One Night.
I agree. I am 20% in and she has already cried and been so overly dramatic I want to stop reading. She comes across as spoiled and dumb. I used to be in medical sales, and I can promise you, not ONE female doc in sports med or orthopedics or anywhere was a crying, neurotic drama queen. So I automatically have trouble relating to her immaturity.
Gina- I struggled to get as far as I did. I did recently try to give it another go but I just can’t get past Rachel. I thought I was in the minority because so many people love this book and are overselling it on every platform. I keep having to stop myself to warn people about Rachel. Honest, this book would of been better without her 😉
@Natalie yes she does. My second time trying to read it, I got to about 60%-65% and I was done. I just couldn’t make myself finish reading this.
Ughh. I’m so glad other people are feeling this way! I thought I was lame cause everyone is raving about it but there’s just not plot for me. I’m 75% through right now and really have to push myself to read at the moment
@Kimberly, your not alone, I thought I was as well. Your definitely not lame. Also, no harm in dnfing this one. It was driving me absolutely crazy trying to finish it. Every time I see someone recommend this book, I cringe a little.
I couldn’t agree more. She drove me nuts the entire book and I almost DNF’d a couple of times. Jake is what kept me reading. He truly deserved better
@Jenna I love Jake, but I couldn’t finish this because of Rachel. The book would of been better without her.
I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who felt this. I've never actively rooted against a fmc before. I wanted each to wake up and dump her.
@Elizabeth I don’t think I’ve ever rooted against a FMC either. I especially wanted Jake and Caleb to tell her to get lost. Those two could have had their own epic love story.
Rachel did get a little annoying in some parts, but finishing the book you saw that Rachel held back a bit with jake bc she knew jake & Caleb needed to come closer first. It was a progression of jake & Caleb’s love and them realizing it was more than just friendship and wanting to share Rachel - they wanted eachother. I think it was good she wasn’t all in with jake at first, or else Caleb probably would’ve backed out and/or Caleb and jake never would’ve admitted their love and need for eachother romantically/sexually.
@brianna
That is the difference between you and some of us, though. To me, Rachel was more than a little annoying. The further I read the more I hated her.
It's good you liked her and the book, but not everyone is going to feel that way.
And honestly, I shouldn't have to finish the book to possibly finally like the fmc again. Especially not a book that long. It should have come sooner.
@Brianna that’s a good perspective to have of this book. Her not being all in with Jake isn’t the only reason I didn’t like her. It was like her character and personality drastically changed from That One Night to Pucking Around. She seemed like a different person, like she did a complete 180. I love her in That One Night, I was rooting for them and I don’t mind reverse Harlem at all. I wish I could explain it better from my perspective, she just grated my nerves so badly. I’m glad you enjoyed the book. It’s always fun to see how everyone perceives books differently. A book can be a lot of things and mean a lot of different things for each reader. That’s one reason I enjoy reading and writing reviews. Sharing one’s emotions and feelings can open your eyes to a bigger picture.
@Elizabeth The more I read, the more I disliked her as well. It made it so hard to continue reading this. I love reading MM romance and Reverse Harlem, those were not my issue with this book. I would of loved more of a relationship to blossom between Jake and Caleb earlier on, might have kept me motivated to read this. Less Rachel, more them. Hahaha
Truly, I apologize if anyone is offended by my review. I’m a blunt person and often just say how I feel. I just put it out there, I never mean any disrespect with any book review I write. My reviews are based on my feelings and perspective.
Much love ♥️
@Venus I agree, I think they all three deserve better. I would love to belong to someone like Jake ♥️
I feel the same way. I just couldn't finish it. Which is a shame cos I really liked the novella introducing Rachel and sweet Jake. But gah! Rachel got worse and worse.
@Samantha Moran I’m sorry this one didn’t work out for you as well. I loved, loved, loved That One Night, I was so excited for this book after reading the novella. I was so let down by how much Rachel’s character changed between the two. Her changed seemed so drastic and unprofessional, it was unreal. I just couldn’t get past her. I’m glad I’m not the only one and that other people had the same experience as me. I hope you enjoy your next book♥️
Could not agree with you more! Rachel was not a good character, and all the boys deserved better. She was so needy, and not in Jake’s cute golden retriever way. I was honestly hoping they would realize she wasn’t good for them and just end up together. Give me this book without Rachel, and it could be close to a 5⭐️ because the boys are great.
@Sara I agree so much, I’ve said so many times that this book would of been five stars with just Jake and Caleb ♥️
Okay I’m so glad I found other who felt this was. Rachel pissed me off so much. She kept saying how in love she was then she goes and sleeps with others, knowing it makes Jake jealous? It doesn’t make sense to me. She was absolutely desperate and wanting to discuss feelings during uncomfortable times, but she was never super open with hers. I got to 62% today and returned it. I couldn’t keep going.
@Sydney I agree. The way Rachel handles herself is most of the reason why I can’t stand her. She is supposed to be a well respected doctor, yet she acts like such a whiny bitch, I couldn’t deal with her. I don’t know if she could’ve been more unprofessional. She honestly ruined this book and every time I see people recommending it, it makes me cringe.
I really get what you mean. I finished it and enjoyed it well enough but Rachel did irritate me. Just because you have a nickname for someone doesn’t mean you’re cultivating healthy communication or even that you’re all that close.
@NickiMahri I’m glad you enjoyed the book and were able to finish it. A lot of people love this book and I love that a book can be different for everyone.
i agree so much. i’m struggling to get to the finish line on this one. i just am finding the whole situation annoying and i wanted to love it so much.
@Emily, I’m sorry this one isn’t working out for you either. I think that’s why my disappointment in this one run so deep, I had such high expectations. I wanted to love it so much, it killed me a little.
Thank you for this review!!!! I read One Night and thought it was great! Started Pucking Around and kept looking for the FMC from that book. Never found her… DNFd after the plane scene where she was pissed the goalie wanted her to move! Like…does it really matter??? She was a total B for no reason. I couldn’t deal with her after that. I kept seeing this book recommended in FB smut groups where they raved it was the best book of the year? Wha???? My thoughts are aligned with yours, 100%.
@Heather, you’re welcome haha… Someone had to say it, might as well have been me. I’m really glad I’m not the only one this book didn’t work out for. It’s had such a huge outpouring of love on all the groups I’m in too, I literally thought it was me for awhile. I hope your next book is better!
I couldn’t stand Rachel. I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I love Caleb though. I made it through it, but it was just okay for me.
Honestly I’m 60% through and I feel the same. Each of these guys deserve amazing love on their own and the poly thing is feeling so forced. And I felt the same about Rachel and her character change. It all feels so ooc and I wanted to like it cause I loved the novella.
@Jennifer I’m sorry this book isn’t working out for you. I was the same way, I wanted to love it because I thought the novella was amazing. I was so excited for this but it just missed its mark. I agree with the relationship dynamic feeling forced. I don’t mind poly or RH in books, this one just wasn’t for me. I hope your next book is better.
@Caitlin you’re welcome lol 🤣 I put real effort into trying to finish this. It just wasn’t worth it. Lol
Just seemed very unrealistic to me, if they kept it with Rachel, Jake and Caleb then book would have been 100% better!
