Great review! I have similar thoughts about this book... Not bad, but it didn't reach its full potential...

Thank you! I'm holding out hope that the next one will be better 🙏
100% agree with you. Gideon wasn't a sympathetic character imo. And, I also could NOT get around Rune smearing old menstrual blood all over everything. I was disappointed and grossed out by this book 😭

lolol I know! Hopefully, Gideon is better in the next one 🤞
I was shocked by how similar it was to serpent and dove. I liked this book but Gideon didn’t hold a candle to Reid

OMG yes...............
I definitely felt reminiscent of Serpent & Dove too! And I also agree and wish we could have gotten more insight on her Crimson Moth actions. But I loved it nonetheless!
Just the blurb reminded me of Serpent and Dove... Moreover, i read that trilogy three weeks back which put me in a reading slump for two weeks straight coz nothing could quite compare or come close to keeping me as interested and invested as that trilogy... None of my usual gotos or genres or heck quora answers could make me read them... I was so lost in them... And i am not quite ready to read something so similar to one of my all time faves and spoil it, hence came in search of at least one review which would tell me if i was right about this being similar to S&D... Thank you so much... Wont be reading this anytime soon... It def is a me and not a you problem with this book now... Maybe right book wrong time too
These were pretty much my exact thoughts. I'm new to romantasy, and enemies to lovers has never been my thing for this exact reason. Even if a guy has a really tragic backstory that explains his hatred, I could never trust or love a guy who wants to exterminate my race of people. Also the fact that so much of their relationship begins with lies and secrets and is mostly fueled on by pity and lust doesn't make me care for their romance. The characters as individuals were interesting, but I seriously hope that Rune chooses an Alex next time.
I definitely hope you're right about the first book syndrome. Loved the vibes in this one but there really wasn't enough action or actual story. Hoping book 2 is better for both of us! <3
