Thank you!! I felt so left out because everyone on Twitter was talking about this but every extract I read seemed like a wattpad fanfic? At least the cover is nice
Oh nooooo.... I hope I disagree! My copy has frolicking dragons on the side and is too pretty to suck!
Really wanted to like it as it is so easy to read this book. However, all the cliches and the cringe aren’t just it @Amberlea hope hyped books are half as good as they are supposed to be 😶
That’s actually great knowing your taste in books! @Marieke Should learn by now that hyped fantasy books aren’t all good ✔️
I'm barely started and I'm already starting to get irked by the diminutive MC having to lift her chin up higher and higher, and insta lusting after a mountain of a man. And how you can see instantly that dude is the poor man's Rhysand who just instantly sees into Violet's soul. And why is the dialogue so contemporary feeling and basic 🥲
I agree with a lot of what you’ve said. And It wasn’t really romance and the Dragon thing was weird for me.
i’ve only seen one other negative review besides yours and honestly it’s so refreshing! i haven’t read this book yet but i’m always skeptical about popular books because i’ve read a lot of bad ones. the things you listed all sound very similar to my book pet peeves so thank you for your honesty, that’s really helpful. great review, and i hope your next read is more satisfying! 🤍
Thank you so much @Phoebe I would say I had high hopes for this one as I have been waiting for so long to read a good fantasy series. The disappointment was so much as I went on reading. The hype was too much I guess. Happy reading!
I personally had a lot of fun reading this book but it is definitely not for everyone! I would like to mention though that the main character being "frail" and "small" is actually because she has a disability called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It is own voices so it has great disability rep :)
I just don’t know. Just wondering if you could try the first few chapters on Kindle if you have been really planning to read it @Brooklee
yk she was small and fragile bc she had a sickness that does not allow her to heal and grow like veryone slse, thus making her disabled and is why she did not want to even go on the paper because she felt that even the bag would break her because of how her bones probebly were frail on the back
i like this book, that's why it is a 3.50 for me,(the plot and romance is nive, for me) but the sex scenes & the fact that she is not like other girls &the writing &EVERYONE CRIES AFTER LIAM'S DEATH BUT I AM TYE ONLY ONE WHO DID NOT TF
okay keep in mind, violet has ehlers danlos syndrome. she isn’t “small” and “frail” to be cute, she’s disabled. this is also the first book of a 5 book series, so of course there aren’t much dragons in this book. there’s still 4 more books to pick up on it.
Personally, I did really like this book. I can't deny that you are right in quite a few ways. I'm hoping that the sequel shows a lot of improvement. This was her first fantasy and she may just be gaining her romantasy legs.
Personally, I did get caught up in the book, but I still really like your review, because you do have some good points
Fourth Wing is one of the books that I was torn about. Some people loved it, some people hated it, but no one had any serious impact on my decision. Your review did it for me, so thank you for it! Now I know for sure that I have to stay away from this book.
Really though. Just her talking about how small and weak she is and talking about height every damn time .. is literally the reason I can’t get past chapter 4 😭
This book actually started a pretty strong discussion about a few different topics, including how poor the editors' work was in this book. Mostly, I found that the call-out to appropriation of minority cultures. This is an important subject that we should tackle and there isn't a simple solution; it is important to respect the cultures that inspire story tellers and there are many different ways to do so (a glossary, a note of authors about the culture, maybe an interview with people representing the culture). It is a tough discussion, there isn't a good solution for it; however it is important to talk about diversity and enable diversity in my opinion.
Thank you for this! I just had to read points 1 and 2 to know that this will not be for me ahah! Off the want to read shelf lol
So glad this helped @Di and I am not going to even try reading the sequel. Already seen so many bad reviews about it
Omg, Breaking Dawn was the first thing I thought of when reading the sex scenes, too😂 I gave it 2 stars but just for the entertainment factor because while it was frustrating and dumb, it was also hilarious because everyone thought they were the smartest/wittiest person in the room. Otherwise, I agree with everything you mentioned!
