Rosh Wow! I had had my eye on this after I saw it through your update, but not anymore! I too hate such historical works that alter facts.
Appreciate your honest feedback, Morgan!

Thanks Rosh. I had hoped to learn something about Mrs van Gogh I didn't know before as not much has been written about her, but I can assure you this book is not it! All it did was make me angry.

Joe Krakovsky Wow! That was a real burn, but you have your reasons. I like history and when I read something out of left field, even if it is fiction, I have a hard time with it.

Thanks Joe, real people have a right to authors being truthful, even if they're dead. Historical fiction is all well & good but one has to draw the line somewhere.

Margaret M - (having a challenging time and on GR as much as I can) Thanks for the honesty Morgan. Wonderful review 💖

Annette Morgan, a lot of people have problem with first person writing about real people. I have no problem with that in HF, but I know it's not for everyone.

Thanks Annette I know we differ on this point but this book was so full of fake information the first person writing was the least of the problems for me.

Alan I too, was going to read this, but no more.

Eva Hnizdo Hmm, interesting. Thanks for prevent me from wasting time. And yet, doesn;t alwasy have tio be this way. There was a theatre play in London Vincent in Brixton, I was not allowed to put link insIt was fantastic, and improved by the fact that Van Gogh was played by a Dutch acto Jochum ten Haaf
It is a long time ago, but I still have the poster and remember the play, SORRY THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR NEGATIVE, BUT VERY GOOD REVIEW

Chantel Glad to come across your review of this one, Morgan. I'm so sorry to see that they published such a mess of a book - very disappointing indeed.

Megan Crowley I’m wondering if you’ve read the secret life of sunflowers and your take on the historical accuracy of that one. I’m told the book is excellent

No I have not read that book.

message 23: by DeB (new)

DeB I read the Author’s Notes before I started reading the novel- which I usually find informative and helpful. The novel, however, has such a cursory relationship to reality that I found myself flipping through it, trying to eke out anything truly historical. I agree wholeheartedly with your review, Morgan .

I should have read the Author's Notes first too DeB. That was smart of you. Thanks for your comment.

Kim Thank you! Exactly how I felt. I refuse to read the book to its end too, in honor of the Johanna and the Van Gogh brothers.

Thank you for saying that.

message 27: by Katie hall (new)

Katie hall In the authors note at the end of the book she stated that she had made up and changed a lot of details for the sake of the novel. While I would have liked a true account as well I do appreciate that she made a point to say which parts were fiction.
