Maegen Glad you enjoyed this book! I also loved it and it is one of my favorite books of the year! I also loved Hadrian as a character :)

message 2: by R. (new)

R. A. Strich Oh man finally! Finally and same. Both Sun-Eater and Mr. Ruocchio himself are so freaking underrated and I honestly can't explain it with any logical argument. So glad you loved this!
And be prepared, because it really gets absolutely wild from here. So excited to see you give this series your full attention now! :D

message 3: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn You will be blown away by Howling Dark! Such great worldbuilding and characters

Thank you so much, Maegen! I can't believe it took me this long to read this. Hadrian is such a great character!

Thank you! I'm very excited to continue with the series. I will be reading Lesser Devil first before Howling Dark. But I'll make sure to read both of them this month! :)

Audrey Great review Petrik I planned to read this saga for years but I want to read red rising before.

message 10: by Albert (new)

Albert This series is tied with Red Rising for my favourite series of all time and the books just get better and better! Look forward to seeing your reactions as you read along!

Yeah, I love the cover art! Can't deny the helmet looks odd, though, hahaha.

Thank you so much, Audrey! I was in the same boat. Decided to read Red Rising Saga first. Now that I'm done, it's time to commit to this series! :)

As a huge fan of Red Rising, hearing this is encouraging. I look forward to reading and reviewing Lesser Devil and Howling Dark this month! :)

Graham | The Wulvers Library This is a brilliant review, Petrik. I’m glad you enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what you think of the next books because, to me, those get so much better in all aspects.

Brian LambchoP wrote: "Very much looking forward to getting to this. I have always been confused by the cover though, that helmet is so weird...?:)"

The helmets in this universe don't have transparent visors, but completely incase the head. It projects the view of the outside world directly into your eyes from external cameras. But yeah, all of the armor in this cover is a bit weird. I imagined it far less Roman/Medieval looking when I read it.

message 16: by Paromita (new)

Paromita So happy you mentioned the writing multiple times in your review, it is the highlight of the series for me.

Thank you so much, my friend! Yeah, everyone says that. Here's hoping I will agree with them all. Excited! :)

The writing is stunning. Without it, the book wouldn't be as good! :)

message 19: by BradburyTree (new)

BradburyTree I’m on book 3 and it’s honestly one of the best stories ever told so far. He has an amazing gift, Ruocchio.

From the first book alone, I can have a glimpse already. Very excited to continue soon! :)

Will Yams I stopped after book 2. I can’t stand Hadrian

Understandable.
I love Hadrian. 😄

message 23: by Eman (new)

Eman Being a fan of the name of the wind, this series is now in top of my TBR list

message 24: by Anirudh (new)

Anirudh On my list. I'm really hoping that this will be as good as they say

message 25: by BookManiac (new)

BookManiac Dang, I was hesitant because of the Name of the Wind plagiarism allegations, but I might have to get around to reading this book...

Petrik BookManiac wrote: "Dang, I was hesitant because of the Name of the Wind plagiarism allegations, but I might have to get around to reading this book..."

Honestly, other than the first chapter, and it felt more like a homage, I don't see anything here that can be deemed as plagiarism. This is not like First Binding to The Name of the Wind at all.

I hope you will love it. :)

I'm a fan of The Name of the Wind, too! It was sooo good, Ema. And I heard the sequels are even better! :)

message 29: by Dylan (new)

Dylan McConaghy I'm not normally a huge science fiction fan, but I have a feeling that this series will be the exception.

Petrik Dylan wrote: "I'm not normally a huge science fiction fan, but I have a feeling that this series will be the exception."

As long that you love epic fantasy, this sci-fi should work nicely!

message 31: by Justin (new)

Justin I'll have to push this to the top of my TBR. I've been seeing this series getting so many great reviews. I've been wanting to incorporate more science fiction into my schedule so maybe this will help break me into the genre again.

Petrik Justin wrote: "I'll have to push this to the top of my TBR. I've been seeing this series getting so many great reviews. I've been wanting to incorporate more science fiction into my schedule so maybe this will he..."

Definitely do that. I, too, want to read more sci-fi, and this series is the right choice. t will be worth it, Justin! :)

message 33: by Thxlbx (new)

Thxlbx I loved this and Howling Dark as well. Book 3 is on my TBR for late this month. This book reminded a bit of Dune (in a good way), and is now among my favorites for SciFi.

message 34: by Dan (new)

Dan Glad you liked this one, it’s by far the weakest of the series (and still amazing). You are in for a treat, the rest of the books are just insanely ridiculously good. The world building is stupidly massive and you haven’t even got boarded the emotional rollercoaster of the rest of books yet haha. All other sci fi has seemed hollow and un-fleshed out after reading. Series hangover is real.

That's awesome. I will be reading Howling Dark this month. So excited. I'll catch up to Demon in White next month! :)

Rudy Super excited when I watch youtube reviews buy I tend to not enjoy first person perspective. I always struggle to get through the books for some reason. But i will see maybe I will give this one a go.

message 41: by Paul (new)

Paul Great review! You’ll really like Howling Dark and Demon in White. I think overall Demon in White is better, but Howling Dark has some of my favorite scenes so far.

Thank you, Paul! I have finished Howling Dark. It was even better. Will be reading Demon in White in a few weeks! :)

I dislike plagiarism you gave this 5 stars man. I read it because of you and it turned out to be really bad. Nothing in this book is worth giving it 5 Stars. Did the author give you something in return if you give 5 Stars?

message 45: by Idoko (new)

Idoko Simon How can I start reading

message 46: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Allen I dislike plagiarism: everyone has their own opinions friend. You might not be intellectually equipped to grasp why book one was so good

message 47: by Maegen (new)

Maegen I love this book! One of the best science fiction books I've read in a while. Love the lore, the world, and of course HADRIAN (I finally have an answer to the question "who is your book crush" in those book tags!).

message 48: by ChristianK (new)

ChristianK Now that I finally have read it I am looking at some reviews and I find it interesting that both you and Mike didn't think there were Dune influences. I didn't even know about the Kingkiller Chronicles meets Dune thing until now. But there were quite a few things in the worldbuilding that reminded me of Dune. And I would not call myself an expert on that. I only read the first 2 books of Dune so far. But some things stood out to me immediately. (not meant as an accusation, I just find it interesting how different perception can be). I wrote in my review:

"My first impression was: "This has A LOT of Dune influences, huh." The personal shields. The Empire itself. The Houses. Atomics. The Scholiasts and the restrictions on machinery and computers reminded me of why Mentats exist in Dune. There even is a saying about Fear quoted several times."

But I would not call it plagiarism. I just thought it was a noticeable influence.

Anyway, I enjoyed it well enough to keep reading the series, even though it took me quite a while to actually get into it.

message 49: by Michael (new)

Michael Smith I am on the final book of The Last King Of Osten Ard and it is magnificent. So...explain to me why I was drawn to this book a couple of hours ago and am now on 16%?

message 50: by TheBookLounge (new)

TheBookLounge I'm about to be done and WOW! I know this book gets compared to DUNE a lot. I can not give you my opinion on that because I have not read DUNE. That book is on the list, believe me. EOS is one that is an introduction novel so with it being a bit slow, I took that into consideration. The author is giving us a small image to where he wants to take this. I'm excited to continue the series and see when this world that the author is giving us goes.
