🤣🤣🤭 honestly love this review so much- can we also talk about the sex scene? The thunder breaking the window? I literally started gagging
I waited as long as I could to get this out of my TBR and post this review. I didn’t want to yuck anyone’s yum and people were loving it so much, so I decided to let the hype die down to be honest 😂 so if you like this book, maybe skip this review
Even if I liked a book and you didn’t, I love reading your reviews. Not only do they make me laugh out loud, but I love seeing the way your mind works. And it makes me sit back and think “Hmm, maybe she’s got a point” 😂 Reading your reviews won’t make me like or dislike a book, as we all have our own minds and can make our own decisions, but I just love reading your reviews and they make my day.

Charli this was the sweetest comment ever I love you
I truly don’t understand how this book didn’t flop. And not only that, people have been saying how this is the greatest book of the century. This was one of the worst crap I have read in a LONG time.
i like this book verry much but this review made me think....IDK HOW TO SAY IT BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RANT REVIEWS I EVER READ
So many of my friends want me to read this but I saw a spoiler right when it first came out that he gives her the nickname “violence” because her name is Violet, it gave me the ICK and I haven’t been able to bring myself to actually read it. So thank you for this review, it confirmed a lot of my assumptions. 😂
I read this book and really enjoyed it, that being said I agree with everything you're saying and adore this review
I love this review, even though I also really love this book. I recon you're right, that it's very nostalgic and getting me giggling and gasping like a teen
Well said. I haven’t finished it because I feel like I’m reading some pathetic mix of The Hunger Game (which I loved in my 20s) and Twilight. I can’t believe this book is so popular - like “need me a collectors edition” kind of popular! Is it only NOT YA because of the sex scenes? That’s what the writing style makes me wonder. Bleh.
Great review.
So Fourth Wing was my first fantasy and I really enjoyed it. But can I just say I have been living for your updates on this since the first one and I couldn’t wait for this published review. And it did not disappoint! Also, I’m gonna put some of these references on my TBR! Thanks!
I enjoyed the book and also enjoyed your review. We can enjoy life… we don’t need to explain ourselves xoxo
Seriously was so excited to read your review because to be honest I loved reading this book yet all the things you pointed out are 100% valid. 😂 It makes me question my taste a little bit but anyways we always get roped into the fomo of booktok recs.
I did enjoy reading this book and it is probably because I never read the 2001 cringe fest books. After now almost being done with Twilight for the first time it all makes sense. The ending was totally predictable but I am nothing if not nosey so I’ll probably read the next book too. Better tone it down on the “I’m so tiny and frail” nonsense though.
Violet the whole book: 🥺 i’m so smol
👉🏻👈🏻
How did it get so popular?? I don’t understand! Zero world building, the disability wasn’t explained and she immediately went from “he wants to kill me” to sleeping with him immediately. But he had to save her life 10 times first. Anyway, love your review haha
You nailed it! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this hilarious and insightful review.
This book was so childish, predictable, shallow, and well…just disappointing. I love books about dragons and was so excited, but was just let down. I felt nothing for the main characters, no attachment. I couldn’t care less about them, and I’m a habitual “crier” when reading books, but this evoked zero emotions.
All these things bothered me but I still rated it five stars. Now I’m questioning my sanity. Tbf though I haven’t read half the books you mentioned, so maybe that’s why it felt fresh ish to me?
Litereally obsessed with this review, I kind of liked the book but definitely knew that the book was cringe as I was reading it
Cackling 😂😂😂 you’re making me question my gd sanity as I loved this book so much 😩😩 but at the same time I totally agree with you 😂
I ate this book up and LOVED it. That being said though, I read it right after Red Queen and couldn't help but notice the main characters both had brown hair with silver tips. And the lightning deal. Oh and the bit about the brother at the end. Is it possible for them to be that similar and a coincidence
I dont know. I understand “the rage” of not comprehending how is something a fucking bestseller when it shouldnt be. But we are humans. We are not enjoying when something is new and fresh and never heard of. We enjoy something when it is similar and routinly in us. If you look at 50shades is everything you know, god, it is well-known that it is a rip-off of twilight (written like fanfic, i believe there is still a version with the names edward and bella somewhere on the internet.)
For instance you are currently reading HP. When I was 12 and mesmerized by Hogwarts and wanted to sell my belongings and move there, (if there was goodreads then it would be hyped and given 5*) my brother a tolkien devoted fan was like “girl, no. She stole everything she could have”. I thought my brother was an idiot and then I saw lotr movies…
The sucessful recipe for a mass hypeness is definitely combined something generic with an lighly unusual approach and voila.
And if I could add, I would say that I loved it, I am a new to “romantasy” I do not have a booktok, I saw on gr a review where it was stated that is something between hunger games and acotar and I was hooked.
But I have noticed there is an extreme difference in which phase of life someone reads something. If i was reading HP and “had to” read fourth wing because i am a reviewer, I would be disappointed.
But for me I had zero expectations. And when you have this mindset you are surprised. :)
You are brilliant! At some point all the books in my past gets blurred lines, so I always get excited again! Also, never have read Shadow and Bone not finish ACOTAR . Im not huge in fantasy but this one was in Audio (in my language) so i did it and love it! Guess now i will have to enter fantasy land with the books you mention
I trust blindly in your taste in books

I am not quite sure I understood your point, but, I never have issues when authors use other projects as inspiration and you can see certain aspects of other worlds in it. I do have issues when it's this recycled. I read a lot, so re-reading the same sex scenes every single time gets exhausting. And when an author uses the EXACT same plot from popular books (from the beginning till the end), it gets exhausting as well. And my complaint over her ripping off other books is only one of the items that bothered me. The childish characters, the lack of world building, the extremely cheesy sex scenes, the incongruence of the character development, the constant "I am not like other girls" build up, writing a character with a supposed disability and forgetting about that disability during sex scenes, the lack of action (literally almost nothing happens for the entire first half of the book) people can still love it, and enjoy it, but that doesn't make any of the things I said less true. I'm an editor, I review books from a purely stylistic point of view and this book could have used more world building and better character development, ergo, its a 2.
I LOVED the book. But I gotta tell you… I was waiting for you to read it and I am thrilled to read your review. 😆🙌🏼
Thank you for sharing your snarky thoughts! Hysterical as always. I love that we can enjoy similar books and then be oceans away on others.
Your reviews NEVER disappoint! 👌🏻
This was 100% YA 2000’s Nostalgia with cool dragons and a lot of seggs. I somehow both agree with your review and gave it 4 stars for getting me out of a reading slump 😂 well done, as always, Julia.
I loved this book because it was such an easy and immersive read, like there was nothing overcomplicated and it was just fun and for that I gave it a 5. THAT SAID, not a single thing you've said is wrong and I can admit that too
I loved this review! I did not know I was into 2001 cringe writing, but apparently I am HEAVILY into it. Everything you said was true but I am still look forward to book 2. I probably need therapy but I doubt that I will actually want to be cured.
Just pray for me please because I obviously have issues.
I read Twilight so many times I lost count.
At least I didn't read 50 shades of shit. (Wondering if maybe I should)
I loved this book, but I also love this roast 😂 you’re not wrong - especially about the horny dragons!!
I liked the book but didn’t love it. All this supper praise was very strange for me and I couldn’t really put it together in my head why until your review, Julia. Thank you🙆♀️
@Júlia i dont know how to reply on this thing. I know that you are an editor and I love your reviews and recs and if I would stumble upon your review first I would be sceptic and would nitpick the same things.
I do not want to sound like I want to take your opinion away from your or anything. The lack of world building and the constant whining got on my nerves too, believe me but I was in a very different mood and maybe even in a very different phase of life then and now I would view it differently but then it got to me. I loved the dragons I loved premise and the author just found her success formula which would please masses and good for her. I had been working almos a decade in television and I edited scripts and occasionaly I write a book in my small country, so I get the frustration when you can put a finger on something being a hit when it is clearly a rip off. I never read the two books you mentioned she got inspiration from, maybe i would look at it with the same set of eyes as you. I rate any popular books way too differently (for instant all colleens and henrys and christina laurens etc) than my book peers in my community and mostly I got the same taste (and result) as you. So… the writing lacked a lot of things I agree.
