Lucia I 100% agree with your review, Petrik! Pierce Brown is the best sci-fi author of this generation and I absolutely adore this series. Lightbringer had perfect character development and fight scenes were epic. It Has been long since some book made me feel sa much as Light Bringer!!! I must re-read soon :)

Thank you so much, Lucia! We're blessed to have Pierce Brown's storytelling. The book was bloodydamn epic. Darrow and the character's development were so well-written!

Very true. That's why I think Red Rising is a series suitable for those who love reading epic fantasy and haven't dipped their toes into sci-fi yet! :)

message 9: by Wick (new)

Wick Welker Okay fine. I bailed after Red Rising but obviously I need to pick this series back up.

If Golden Son still doesn't hook you, give up on the series. The rest won't be for you. 😄

message 11: by Wick (new)

Wick Welker Okay sounds good. Thanks for the advice. I'll do that.

Mike's Book Reviews Hail Reaper.

message 13: by David (new)

David I too initially gave up after reading Red Rising - then I gave it another try via audiobook and freaking loved it. Then I read Golden Son and was like the heavens opened up 😂! Amazing series!

message 14: by Thxlbx (new)

Thxlbx Glad you loved it! It was phenomenal! I started the Red Rising Saga in January and have loved it! Hopefully Red God comes sooner rather than later...the last chapter is going to be epic!

Thank you so much! Prime. That's why I recommend readers to try up to Golden Son before giving up the series! :)

Thank you! I agree. I don't think this one will be a longer wait than the wait for Light Bringer. Fingers crossed next year. I will reread Light Bringer closer to the release date!

Graham | The Wulvers Library Great review Petrik! Have this series on the TBR and really want to get to it!

Be careful. The epicness might make it hard to function in the real world. :)

Melissa Sullivan Lance, thanks for the warning! This is exactly why I haven’t started it yet: Brown definitely likes to kill his darlings, and I’m not ready to let any of them go! 😭

message 30: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Weald Wow thank you for putting into words exactly how I feel!! Of the series, Red Rising has always been my go to favorite - plus I also didn’t really enjoy dark age my first read through but with another read through of the entire series leading up to the release of this book plus now adding the layered complexity of Lightbringer on top - my feelings are entirely changed. It was marvelous.

You're welcome! Glad you agree Dark Age was better on reread. And yeah, Light Bringer is absolutely amazing. I look forward to rereading it when Red God is near!

message 32: by Chips (new)

Chips O'Toole Dark Age was hard, but that's what it needed to be. If you don't break characters, there can be no redemptive arc. You just get them failing and never moving past their limitations.

MIGHT BE SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ DARK AGE. Proceed accordingly....

I'm about 60% through Light Bringer right now, and while I thought I couldn't love Darrow more than I did in the other books, I certainly do. I think it started with the scene in Dark Age where he walked away from the decision making process on Mercury. The old Darrow would never have done it. He would have wrestled with it alone, cut people out, and taken all the blame on himself for what came of it.

Brown has always been careful to say that Darrow and Reaper are not the same person, but even Darrow lost sight of that for a time. To see him humbled, putting himself back together---my gosh, what a testament to his real strength. To see him pouring patiently back into Sevro, to Cassius, and most importantly into himself is so cathartic. What a redemptive story this is. It still pulls no punches. It's gritty. It's gory. It's full of tension and worry, but I don't feel like I did at the end of Iron Gold. I know something good is on the horizon, and it gives me hope.

Yeah! Dark Age was the necessary installment for Light Bringer to shine bright. And shine it did. I love Light Bringer so much, and I look forward to reading it again when Red God is near. I'm glad to hear you loved it that much, too, Jamie! Something good is on the horizon indeed!

message 35: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Skeffington Lightbringer was the book that brought back the magic of Red Rising. It made me excited for Red God. It once again allowed me to get lost in another world.

message 39: by Bobby (new)

Bobby Doing a reread of the series atm and currently just onto Morning Star. This series is the gift that keeps on giving. I love it from start to finish, and completely agree on the brotherhood point. Emotionally it’s a bit like Locke and Jean, but with more time, trauma, and joy together. Thanks for the awesome review!

You're welcome, Scott! It's a brilliant series. I already look forward to rereading it again! :)

message 41: by Riley (new)

Riley Gravelle Only real issue I had was the daughters of Athena. Felt like the most cheap and random way to give Darrow an army.

Shivani Awasthi Fantastic review! I agree with you - Golden Son was a precious favorite (first read), but Light Bringer is the crowning jewel of this series. The brotherhood was everything and honestly after the brutality of Dark Age, a needed reminder that there is more, that there is hope and family and brotherhood and a future out there.

Yes! Exactly. This is exactly why Light Bringer, at the end of the day, is the best of the series, IMO. Just like Morning Star! :)
