Rayne Love this review! But why do authors constantly try to shove these types of heroes down our throats?! Like no thank you, I’ll pass 😬

Yuuup… this trilogy came out forever ago and I don’t read this type of angst anymore.

message 3: by Soma (new)

Soma I totally agree with everything you said. This series was one of my favorite back in the day and I was so into it! But now if I tried to read it I know I would definitely hate it!

message 4: by Eva (new)

Eva Love your reviews they really help with finding the right book to read and not to read. But honestly what is up with cheating in romance novels? We shouldn’t have to look through reviews specifically to find if there is cheating🙁

It’s interesting how our readings change! Things I loved even 3 years ago I wouldn’t love as much

I agree. I wish authors would disclose this info. And many times, early reviews are arc readers and they’re not allowed to give too many spoilers.

Some might say it’s “not” cheating because they weren’t together. I say tomato tomahto… they both want each other. Well, at least one person…

She’s not trying to sleep around. And yes, he was inebriated and messed up, but he still managed to get it up MANY times. Guess he’s not THAT obsessed if his D got stiff for other women, and entered them too 🙄😒

Lisa the book CREEP I hate this kind of shit shows they call "romance" 🤤🤤

message 8: by Eva (new)

Eva Ugh the worst, if I’m not going to put up with cheating irl then I’m not trying to read about it either🫠 And I didn’t know that about arc reviewers! Thanks for the info

Maria (semi hiatus) Totally agree with you Sonia. I read book 1 and 2 back then and I must have had low standards 🙈 I can’t stomach this kind of heroes anymore. Cheating or not, this guy couldn’t keep his D in his pants for 4 days. He associates drinking with having sex. So the h shouldn’t let him drink alone or what.. he might end up sleeping with someone else? She was way too forgiving, and the cheating was glossed over. And all the OW, just thinking about this series.. what a lovely romance it was 🤡

message 10: by Vini (new)

Vini Warner I’m gonna preface this by saying I loved this back in the day. So I’ll give it some points. 2013 Sonia was waaaaay more forgiving than 2023 Sonia

You put my EXACT thoughts to words!! In my case i read this (among with many other books) in 2020 and I'm not even sure i have read them correctly because OMFG if i re-read these books now, I'll be saying EXACTLY what you're saying rn. Istg who are these past us?? They are soo pathetically untrustworthy!!

Riiiiight!!!! Don’t get me wrong; many people like cheating books, but there’s so much cheating that happens IRL, I don’t want it in my books 😭😭😭

Yeah, many times the first reviews for books are arc readers. Usually you’ll get “regular” readers as time passes after the book’s been released. Not all arc readers disclose that they read an arc, so it can be difficult to figure out.

Saaame!!! I remember being angry (back in those days) that she would always CAVE so EASILY! Like, girl, she was feisty in so many aspects yet quickly forgave him 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️she needed a stronger spine 🤷🏻‍♀️ or maybe some follow through with her “threats”. I remember I wished she had also slept around, but because it’s not as frowned upon when the hero/man cheats, she never did 🙄.

I get it. Jesse was crazy enough as it was, but then if he was so crazy for her, then he should’ve been more faithful 🤷🏻‍♀️

We have to cut ourselves some slacks. We were IN THE MIDDLE OF A DAMN PANDEMIC 😭😭😭. We were going bonkers and doing whatever we could to survive 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣

The things I 5 starred in 2020 I would probably 3 star now 🤣🤣🤣

Sonia Simra wrote: "lemme guess she forgives him quickly? capital P for pathetic"

Basically 🤷🏻‍♀️. The thing is that Jesse doesn’t reveal all his truths. We are STILL uncovering info in book 3…

So it’s a constant battle of omitted details that keep getting revealed as the series unfolds. And by then, we’ve wasted our time and energy on this couple

⚔Irunía⚔ i lowkey like when the H cheats because the subsequent grovel and boy chases girl thing and angst look DELICIOUS and are my fav. 😇 but authors who make the h so easily forgiving just don't get why some ppl love cheating in romance.

I personally don't expect the h to follow in the hero's footsteps and basically become a community whore for the neighbourhood as well just because of "oh no he jumped off the tallest building in town I gotta find a scryscraper even taller and jump off too to make it even😂" mentality but I expect her to have self respect = make the guy SWEAT die from exertion and resurect to get into her good graces again. When that doesn't happen I wonder why would the author introduce ow scenes then? It's not even angsty if the h doesn't suffer that she's been cheated on for more than a few seconds and doesn't make the hero pay in blood trying to figure out how to win her back.

and I don't think liking cheating books is tantamount to having low standards at all. some of us just love exploring diff things in fiction, a matter of preferences 😇
but yeah authors SUCK at execution so bad it's painful to read 🥺

Sonia ⚔Irunía⚔ wrote: "i lowkey like when the H cheats because the subsequent grovel and boy chases girl thing and angst look DELICIOUS and are my fav. 😇 but authors who make the h so easily forgiving just don't get why ..."

I totally agree. Those who like cheating books want the reward for all the suffering and angst they’ve endured. If he did the crime, he better pay the time: aka make him suffer, beg on bloodied knees, and work for it, at the bare minimum.

Back in the day, I read, got angry and moved on to the next book but never felt the reward of having a repentant man who’s suffered enough and SHOULD be forgiven (when it came to cheating or Ow scenes/books). Eventually, I figured out I’m just not satisfied with cheating books.

And you’re right. Two wrongs don’t make a right (in fiction or in real life), but in order to fix that wrong, there needs to be consequences and lessons learned, and here I didn’t feel like there were enough. We feel the heroine’s agony and heartbreak, but then the hero’s dicking skills make it all better 🙄.

Now, I expect a looooot more from my H’s.

And varying your reading is always a great way to change it up and not get bored 😉, it’s definitely a preference. I can do it all (for the most part) virgins, manwhores, age gaps, taboo tropes, romcoms, contemporary, new adult, dark, light, series or novellas, etc etc just not cheating 🤡 (not anymore 😬)

Reading preferences and interpretations are always subjective. I’m sure there are a lot of people that felt that Jesse groveled enough. I just didn’t 😬. Hence why even though it’s been 10 years, I’m still bitter about it 🤣🤣🤣

message 31: by ⚔Irunía⚔ (last edited Feb 06, 2023 02:24AM) (new)

⚔Irunía⚔ Sonia, feeling bitter about a book 10 years later is iconic ngl 🤣🤣🤣 it's so funny because with cheating books it's vice versa for me: I used to avoid cheating books like a plague and now I enjoy them. 💀

I so agree that definition of grovelling is vague in the sense that diff people see it differently it's the same w dark romance or anything really: for some dark romance would be any light mafia romance with a bit of casual homicide and for others (me🤡) it has to be fucked up to the moon to be considered dark. That's why I have trust issues when it comes to reviews 😭😂

Girl, yes! Just because a man takes what he wants without questions and maybe sheds a "little" blood doesn't always make the book "dark" 🤡🤡🤡🤡

But many would disagree with me🤣🤣🤣

lol! I'm gonna defend younger Sonia by saying that 10 years ago a completely-celibate H during his separation from h was rare. Now there's more variety, including heroines who also date and sleep around like the Heroes of old. What's still rare now and then is a good grovel from H.

YES! Thank you for defending younger Sonia 🤣🤣🤣

I remember being upset whenever I read cheating books, but because we were limited with what we could read and kindles were barely becoming more popular, I just accepted it.

I'm so glad times have changed lol

She walked in on him being whipped while he’s shirtless by the ow he’s previously slept with.

It’s not exactly glossed over but she forgave him way too quickly for me.

By this point, he had already had his four-binge days of f’ing ow women iirc

Izzy SM I gave up on the first book. The morality (not of the characters) of the way the story is presented was twisted and I could not get on with it. What you give here is a perfect example of that... I wish I had read your reviews months ago when I wasted my time on the first book

I completely agree 🤷🏻‍♀️. The flow of the plot and the nonsensical actions of the characters can leave a bitter taste in readers’ mouths if not done well. In this case, the most basic expectation of fidelity to emotions is tampered with.

I’m sorry I didn’t save you the headache of reading the first one

~839 book boyfriends~ ofc she walks in on it…i think by now we’ve established that its peak romance to show your partner you care about them by fucking countless over a “break”🤧👀

SMDH… the amount of celibate heroines/non celibate heroes in romance is insane

And this is as BARELY even a separation!!! It was days!!! Not weeks, not months, not years, but DAYS!

It reads and writes Jesse absolutely does my head in as does this series. The only reason im continuing to read them is that im on holiday, kindle has packed in and friends have paper copy to hand. As an avid holiday reader, I need something but this definitely not it.
Firstly, I actually feel kinda sorry for Ava. She is having to fend off this guy with very little support from her supposed best mate. If Ava was my mate I would be booking her a month in a tibetan retreat to get her off the grid and give her a full body mind and soul cleanse after being abused by that toxic d**k.
Secondly, considering how huge his schlong is, her pelvic floor must be in tatters.
On a more serious note, the scene where she wakes up and he is inside of her! WTF, if you're unconscious during this, then it's rape. Surely a man that owns a sex club understands the rules of consensual sex.
I'm half way through this and I'm assuming she ends up preggers after the huge hints about contraception that he is obviously hiding from her.
Anyways, I'm only 4 days into holiday, half way through book 2 and still book 3 to go. I doubt it gets better but I hope it doesn't get worse.

Lol!!!! Yes, she definitely needed more support

I am 💀💀💀 at your pelvic floor in tatters comment 🤣🤣🤣
Because, yes!!! No amount of kegels exercises are gonna help 🤡

And, your assumption is correct. Sooo many hints about her lack of thinking when it comes to her pills missing 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sigh. Ava. Girl. HOOOOOW do you always “forget” 🙄 put two and two together 🤦🏻‍♀️

Um… book 3 gets better if it helps… KIND OF… some *things* are revealed 😬

Maria (semi hiatus) Same here Sonia, I loved this series years ago. I can’t believe how much my taste has changed ever since. I’m with you on the Rachel thing. In my opinion being on a break is no license to sleep with others. I even skimmed a book where this happened in just a few hours and it grossed me out. It affects the way I root for a couple if one of them can stray so easily.

Thirstygirl So wait, they break up for only 4 days and he goes through a slew of women in that time?!?!

message 48: by Sonia (new)

Sonia @Thirstygirl- so, in book 1, he disappears for 4 days and in those 4 days he slept with a bunch of women. He was blacked out/out of it from being so upset about Ava, so he doesn’t exactly remember all the women/details, if that makes sense 🙄
The info comes out in this book but it happened in book 1.
