A very balanced and fair review, Joe. I think I should not worry about Maud Dixon!

Thank you, Lorna. I know in today's world we're supposed to care, but I really didn't care who Maud Dixon was. I think since she's a fictional character, I can say that.

Haha! Thanks for making me laugh, Adina. I was going to say I hope I never get a review like this, but then again, if someone took three hours to respond to something I wrote--that would be pretty cool.
As a reader who always prefers bad books over dull books this review really resonates. Thanks for reading this so that I don't have to!
Kandice wrote: "Again, I enjoy your less than three star reviews even more than your glowing reviews."
Thank you, Kandice. I think we pay more attention to negative reviews. Warning! Most of us like most books most of the time and most of those reviews mostly sound the same, but when someone says a book is bad, we lean forward for some reason.

Terrific point, Bonnie. Someone smarter than me said, be anything but boring.
Have you seen Walk the Line? The scene between Johnny Cash and Sam Phillips at Sun Records is more or less Post-It noted on my writing desk.

Oh I really love that movie. Joaquin Phoenix is crazy talented, though he seems . . . difficult. I have a hard time imagining he and Reese Witherspoon having a conversation let alone working together. She seems difficult too, but in an entirely different way.
I can't recall the scene you are referring to, but that just means I need to rewatch.

Definitely too daffy for my taste, Diane. Murder or Bridget Jones. No murder and Bridget Jones for me.
Joe, forgive me if I'm forgetting, but have you read anything by Anthony Horowitz? He's a great contemporary writer who writes mystery/suspense. He's very clever and entertaining. Maybe one of his books would hit the mark for you.

FWiW, I also love Anthony Horowitz mysteries for adults! He has also written several books in the official Sherlock Holmes series and a couple of popular YA series (Alex Ryder is the best known of then), but I have not read those.

Wow, thanks for this recommendation, Robin. I was not familiar with this author, but have seen The Magpie Murders on my feed quite a bit. I'll avoid Horowitz's YA books and try one of his adult mysteries. These seem like a catch.

I don't read books to hate them. I swear on the health of Ali Wong I don't. There are popular books I could review but I'm not the demographic for. This one had what seemed liked the right mix of story, characters and genre to be more than silly escapism.
