Quoting lyrics verbatim in books is tricky, and I didn't want BMI/ASCAP or the Talking Heads agent to come after me with a pointy stick and a lawsuit demanding royalties! (There are nightmare stories about musicians/bands demanding more money to use a single verse than the entire royalties earned by a novel.) Anyway, that's why the mutant lyrics. Which clued you in on the original anyway.
