deema - thank you gorg, review is now up! 🩷
Stunning review, Brooke! 🩵 I hate when the romance starts off so early on in fantasy books, because the middle tends to drag on way too long! I was so excited to read this because I heard the enemies to lovers was really good, and it’s not even true? Omg!! “let me show you the stars” Is such a beautiful quote! I’m happy you loved the characters though.
beautiful review as always🤭 rushed romance is so annoying especially if its meant to be enemies to lovers 😒 i hope ur next read is 5stars <33
beautiful review bby ! 💓💓 sorry that the book was mediocre !! why do i feel cheated too now, because everyone says the enemies to lovers is the best part of this book, and it’s not.. now WHAT THE FUCK ?? that was the only aspect selling me on reading this yikes ! and the main story being at the beginning ? omg no wonder the middle dragged 😫 jase and kazi sound cute though 🤭
Great review girly, I was confused what the book was actually about because the blurb was a bit iffy, but your review is *chefs kiss* 🤌🏽 I feel like you have to be in the right mood to read this because it does sound like it gets pretty boring.
kayla - thank you so much, ml. 💘 i agree, it’s a 500 page book and them kissing 100 pages in and falling in love after spending a week chained together was a bit annoying - im just way too used to slow burns. i was so so mad the enemies to lovers doesn’t even play out, like the potential it had, AHH!! they just kept going back and fourth and it would always get resolved quickly. i love that quote sm 🥹
omg this is one of my fave duologies. im glad you liked it overall despite your gripes with the pacing & romance. i also thought the kissing was too early, but JaseKazi chemistry was undeniable. i hope the sequel makes up for you. awesome review! 💗
eee, stunning, gorgeous, beautiful review lovely ! 🤍 i’ve always been on the fence w wanting to start this duology since i’ve only seen mixed opinions on it, but it does sound like an interesting story, but i also feel it will leave me feeling unmotivated with the amounts of detail dumped into the book aghhh !!!!
amazing review brooke! i definitely thought this book was slow burn and enemies to lovers, so thanks for the heads up! excited to read this sometime!
Thank youu for pointing out what you did and didn’t like about this. Sorry it didn’t work out despite enjoying it for the most part 🫶🏼 hopefully the next in the series makes up for it if you decide to read it! Amazing review per usual Brooke 🩷
completely agree bc the pacing was also my biggest issue w the book, especially since i’d heard sm about it being a slow burn. great review!
oh noo sorry you were let down by some parts. but the storytelling and riddles being their love language part sounds so cute jdhcsjsjjs im blushing. and him getting them wrong to make her laugh is so cutee 🥹 im glad u still enjoyed some parts but it rlly is annoying when books are marked as enemies to lovers and just…arent? 💀 amazing review babes 💗
Great review, I read this book years ago and my issue with the book was also the pacing and romance starting off too early, I just found this book uneventful and way too much “politics” in the middle. There wasn’t enough build-up or tension in the beginning, they just jump right into liking each other. Btw, I agree with you on the “enemies to lovers” section, they were definitely more acquaintances
emara - thank u sm lovely 💓 oh it’s fr the worst, especially being a 500 page book and they end up falling in love so early on was painful to get through at times and it made the middle of the book dull. there was so much tension between them, it would’ve been sm better if enemies to lovers actually played out ugh. but thank u, fingers crossed 🤞🏼
leila - thank u angel girl 🥹🩷 i know i’m disappointed ugh, the potential was RIGHT THERE!! no fr, the main story was literally at the start and the end, that’s why the pacing was so off and it got so boring after a while, i was just waiting for something big to happen and it just never did especially since it’s fantasy, it’s what’d you expect. like if conflict did happen they would kiss and make up so FAST - it would make me sigh internally and externally lmao 😭
paris - you’re too sweet, thank u babes - im glad my review could help!! 😚 girl you’re so right, you definitely need to be in the right mood to read this bc it does get boring and repetitive, it will definitely leave some ppl in a slump!!
Aww oh no!!! I was hoping you were going to love this one but I totally get it! I love this book but your points are really good especially for ppl that have the same pet peeves and I am sure they will find this a helpful review. Great job beautiful and I hope your next read is AMAZING 🥰
Great review as always Brooke. I’m glad you pointed out your likes and dislikes with the book and went into great detail, I’ve been having trouble finding a review that will convince me to finally read this 😅 Insta-love is also my biggest pet peeve, so it’s disappointing that it plays out in this and to make it worse they’re not even enemies 😂 I might have to give this one a miss
Amazing review. I don't get how this is marketed as a slow-burn and enemies to lovers when they kiss 22 % in. Anyway I'm glad you still enjoyed this despite having some issues with it.
girl i agree w everything you’ve just mentioned in ur review lol, i needed more drama. i actually wish jase and his family were shown in more detail and the romance needed to be executed better, it felt forced imo ! i don’t remember them actually having an intimate conversation they would just make out and then suddenly they’re “in love” im not buying it lol. YESSS synove my queen, she made me laugh the most especially how she would taunt that one guy 😭😭 curious, will you be reading the next book??
Great review babes 💗 I have this on my tbr since last year and I don't feel motivated to read it, mainly because I fear the pacing is going to put me in a slump 🙈
Another stunning review, Brooke! 🩷 It's a shame that it was a mixed read for you, but I totally get that pacing can really hinder the enjoyment of a book. And if they kiss at the 22% point, that's really not slow-burn!! 😩 Here's hoping your next read will be a better one! 😊
brooke wrote: "kayla - thank you so much, ml. 💘 i agree, it’s a 500 page book and them kissing 100 pages in and falling in love after spending a week chained together was a bit annoying - im just way too used to ..."
Uh, that honestly sounds really disappointing.. I just hate when books hit a wall in the middle, so I feel your pain. The insta-love would throw me off too, it never works in fantasy books! From every review I’ve read, I really thought the enemies to lovers was strong. The plot just sounds blah, but I’m glad you still loved the characters — I hope your next read is better. 🩵
arini - i’m rly glad you loved this, it definitely reels you in that start but i started to lose interest in the middle bc nothing significant was happening and the long chapters started to irk me!! i’m sad the enemies to lovers didn’t deliver tho, them ending up together so early on, ruined it 😔 but ahh, fingers crossed. thank uu sm! 💘
ah i'm glad you liked this, even though the pacing wasn't the best!! kazi and jase sound so good together omg and the quotes 🥹🤍 lovely review!! <3
hannah - my loveee, thank uu sm! 🥹💘 i feel like it’s either a hit or a miss tbh, there were so many characters added that were underdeveloped, it was also reading more like romance than fantasy, the story itself is captivating but it loses its spark in the middle - but it does pick back up towards the end, it also just needed to build up more on the relationship between jase and kazi, like getting together so early on was unnecessary - those were just my main issues honestly.
melanie - so did i honestly, that’s what motivated me to finally read this, but it was literally nonexistent. thank you sm girl,, i’m glad my review could help!! i hope you enjoy it whenever you decide to pick it up! 💘
Incredible review love💖 there were parts that I didn’t read because I’m planning on reading it and I don’t want to spoil myself, but sometimes too much info can be boring, you’re totally right! And I didn’t know there was a prequel, I’ll have to take a look at it🤔 anyways, at least you enjoyed it and forced proximity is soooooooo goood, I love it😍💙
great review! glad you liked it at least, a little sad to know that it isn’t a true slow burn enemies to lovers 🥲 but can’t wait to pick this up
The way I don’t remember a single thing that happened in this book, that’s how bored I was reading it LOLL, I’m not surprised it didn’t hit the mark for you babe!
Gorgeous review babes, Jase and Kazi you will always be famous <33 But honestly, whoever is saying this is “enemies to lovers” are lying, from what I was promised this was nothing. The plot was so boring and underwhelming to me, nothing happened?? I did love the found family in this book though, but that’s about it 🫠
@noëlle the way you’re so right LOLL, I felt the same as you like they would barely talk just kiss and yearn for each other!!! And why was she only 17 it felt so wrong lol like you would think she was in her 20s with how the author was portraying her character and we never even got his age?? It was weird because he is definitely like 20-21.. But anyway, still love them
sabrina - of course, i think it will give readers a better understanding as they might have the same pet peeves as me, and insta-love is definitely the biggest pet peeve for most ppl - but i still did find the story compelling despite not liking some aspects of it, i just felt a lot of details and events were overwhelming. fingers crossed, i hope so too! thank you sm girl. 🩷
I agree with everything u said, the book really dragged and and there was no enemies to lovers which really annoyed me bc they had all the right to be!!! Even after the betrayal like i excepted them to finally be real enemies but they got back together so easily 🙃 but it was fun read i’m so happy u loved it gorgeous 💗 loveee the review and the quotes added 🫶🏻🫶🏻
caleigh - it annoyed me so much how the pacing was WAY off!! it constantly felt like the main story was at the start and end, the middle was just ??? it was so dull bc everything happens within the start.. and then it would get so boring and dragged on!! i rly thought this was a slow burn, enemies to lovers - i was bamboozled lmao. thank uuu sm! 🥰
Lovely review babes, sorry it didn’t work out that well for you, at least you felt a connection with the characters, jase sounds like a gem! I hope your next read is 5 stars 💕
@stel oh girly so true ! they were so much older than the author made them out to be, she did not act like she was 17. And right, they were always going back and fourth and then would kiss and make up it got so annoying, and she would get so mad when he would lie LIKE HOMEGIRL YOURE DOING THE SAME… plzzz i`m getting a headache thinking about it lmfao ! kazi was so annoying at the end of the book it got to the point where i did not care for her character 😬 i think he is 19 (not sure)
lulu - it was so cute,, he would always ask for riddles to distract her from her thoughts and would purposely get them wrong bc he just wanted to see her laugh!! sighhh, they’re everything 🥹 but omggg, i know!! everyone literally goes on ab how good the “enemies to lovers” is in this book, like what??? I DONT SEE IT!! thank uu bb.💘
this sounds cute but also annoying lol. i remember when this series and the previous one came out and i was always curious about them but never gave them a chance. now i’m kinda debating it but also unsure. great review though! sorry it wasn’t such a big win for you :/
mila - yes, i agree w you sm!! i was also expecting more build up - how are they enemies when they literally become friends who make out within the first 100 pages - like there’s still 400 pages left, slow it down. the middle focused way too much on political intrigue and that’s when i started to lose interest bc that’s when the romance should’ve happened - the pacing annoyed me sm. thank u sm! <33
phoebe - im happy to hear my review was helpful, i hope you enjoy this book whenever you decide to pick it up! ☺️
rebecca - i rly wanted to love this one, im so so happy you loved it tho!! thank u sm, gorg!🩷 - like you said it was worth mentioning bc i know insta-love is the biggest issue for most readers, and i was under the impression that this was “enemies to lovers” but i just don’t see it here, so that was a bit misleading. but i am curious abt the next book tho, so it might be worth checking out 🥰
rachel - aw, im so glad my review was great use to you, sry to hear that it’s going to be a miss tho,, which is understandable bc i feel like it will not be for everyone! insta-love is one of my biggest issues in books too, and the fact that it’s in a “fantasy” this book definitely does not even fall underneath that category is a bit ??? - it just did not work out for me! i know, the enemies potential was there, it’s a shame it actually never played out. thank you sm girl. 🩷
emma - thanks girl!💗 but yes exactly!! like everything happens within the first 100 pages - they go from hating each other to them making out and i was literally confused bc they just hated each other not even a min ago like oh they’re “enemies” LITERALLY WHERE?? they are acquainted not enemies. for how unnecessarily long this book is you’d expect the romance to be played out longer not 22% in bc then the middle just focuses on the political intrigue and that’s where i lost my interest lmao.
brooke wrote: "emma - thanks girl!💗 but yes exactly!! like everything happens within the first 100 pages - they go from hating each other to them making out and i was literally confused bc they just hated each ot..."
Yeah I don't understand it either and the middle wouldn't have interested me either with just political intrigue in it. Also the middle of a book (at least for me) is when it starts to get interesting so it's a shame that this one didn't deliver with that.
noëlle - omg exactlyyy, i literally agree w everything you just said!! jase’s family interested me the most so i also would’ve loved to see more of them and their backstories, but i could not keep up w everyone bc there’s like what 9 siblings?? omlll. but girl you’re spot on w that, they fr never had an intimate conversation from what i recall, i already don’t remember anything from this book lmaoo all they both did was constantly lie to each other and then make out - it got to tiring like look i’ll take a deep meaningful convo over them hooking up ANYDAY!! synovè is fr a girlboss, i died when she would constantly torment him but mf deserved it for what he did to her parents - hm, not rn but i definitely will since this left on a cliffhanger 😶
