Thanks for the link Nika!
I haven't read the story, but your analysis has me appreciating the thoughts of the author, Nika. I wonder if she'd been considered shocking to write about marriage in this manner in the late 1800's. Good review - I enjoyed it!
Ohh this sounds so unique, I have never heard of anything like this before! I will definitely check this out, I do love how books like this can gave in insight into societies history! Wonderful review Nika 🧡

Thanks very much, Ron! You made an interesting observation about the late 1800's. I cannot tell whether her take on this sensitive topic had been considered shocking. Perhaps, her stories had been considered daring.
Just found some information on the site dedicated to Kate Chopin. It tells that her short stories were well received in the 1890s and "were published by some of America’s most prestigious magazines — Vogue, the Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s Young People, the Youth’s Companion, and the Century."

Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Ellie! I also love finding such insights in fictional stories. We may learn a lot of things about the past through them.

Thanks very much, Lea! I'm so glad you loved this story!
Very interesting to know that such a work was written in the late 1800s, because due to the restrictive nature of marriage especially during that time, this book must have been a breath of fresh air for many people, who might have actually related to the main character's experiences. I like the idea that the entire book takes place within an hour and goes through a deep-dive into the character's psyche! Profound and insightful review as always Nika! :)

That was an interesting review, Nika. Both of my grandmothers became widows at a young age with children. They had no real recourse in those days other than to remarry. Fortunately, they both found good men.
Ohh, I'm really glad that both of your grandmothers were able to find good men.
Thank you for your bittersweet comment, Joe! Really appreciate that.
In my opinion, good or interesting reviews are those which make us want to read the story.
It is what your reviews Nika manage to convey: "Read it, it is interesting." you seem to say.
In this case, I already read this story, considered one of the first feminist pieces of literature and I confirm, it is very interesting. And I agree with you, the end is a "killer".

Hey Nika, this is an excellent review - you know it's probabyl longer than the story itself!! But you described it wonderfully - out of the two options you present I go for number two!
I definitely need to explore more Kate Chopin - glad this one resonated with you, and great review, Nika!

Thanks so much for reading my review, Mark! Yes, it may be too wordy for such a short story. :)
Number two seems to me more credible, too.

Oh no - I wasn't suggesting your review was too long at all Nika - it was more a comment of how short this short story is :))

👍😊 It definitely is.
Wow, I think the same, we can infer the oppression of women in this story, for that reason one Symbol is the Mr. Mallard's dead because simbolizes freedom and joy to Louise Mallard (his wife).
I agree. She always felt the oppressive role in her marriage, and her husband didn’t let her be free. With the news about her husband, she felt sad but also free. She revealed what she really thought, and her husband never considered her feelings or what marriage meant to her. She loved him, but she also wanted freedom, which he never gave her.

I agree with your review because the story really shows how Mrs. Mallard’s emotions shift from grief to freedom in just one hour. The author uses imagery when describing the “open window” and the “tops of trees all aquiver with the new spring life.” These images symbolize hope and new beginnings, making the reader understand why she suddenly feels independent and full of possibilities.
