Thanks, Melanie. He's got a strong style and a nice turn of phrase. If you catch the right story I think he'd be very good inded.

Thanks, Sabah. Yes, the first is probably the best and it felt very autobiographical to me. It was told in the third person, which might have been an effort to throw readers off the scent. But so much of it seems to parallel events in his own life that at least some of it must reflect real events.
Terrific summary. I have read The Ancient Minstrel twice now and all in all am awed by Harrison’s vocabulary but not much with the story, which seems unconnected thoughts. He is a master of strange detours for sure, well written but without much compass. The plethora of endless names becomes a blizzard. Not able to follow this even after trying twice.
I’ve read several of Harrison’s books, and I love his writing. He’s a man’s man, but he has an understanding of his women characters also. I find his writing insightful, compassionate and humorous.
