Kiersten Fay Has anyone read the new Twilight book Midnight Sun? It's a retelling of the first book through Edwards perspective. What did you think? Were the inner workings of Edward's mind how you thought they'd would be? What did you think of Bella through his eyes?

Sarbi I'm halfway through, I'm really liking it so far makes me feel like a tween again. Over the years I've heard a lot of bashing towards Edward's character but I find him really engaging, he's so moody but it feels like that's part of his personality kind of like Louise from TVC. In short can't stop reading but I'm pacing myself. Did anyone else notice those changes in phrasing from the original book?

I'm almost done - and I love it! Edward's perspective is so much deeper than Bella's; there's just so much more going on in his mind! I don't think I was surprised by anything, but it did give a better picture of what's happening in the original book. Now I see how over-analytical he is... and also how dramatic, but maybe that's also because my life perspective has changed since reading Twilight 10+ years ago XD... but at least to me it makes him endearing, and not annoying. I actually appreciate Bella more in this book. I feel like we didn't really learn anything about her in Twilight except that she loved Edward ><, but in Midnight Sun, we get to hear more about her likes/ interests/ past as Edward is questioning her. I really appreciate Stephanie Meyer giving us the opportunity to see inside his head (and consequently fall in love with him all over again XD)!

Jamie Mustard I have less then 1/3rd of the book left and I am hooked. I am thinking I might need to reread the others again. I love how it fills in the gaps and things make more since.

Athena I started the book. I’m 30% through but I keep reading others instead. It’s not bad, I just don’t know if I want it to end. Twilight started my love of Urban Fantasy.

Ashley Basile I. Love. This. Book. ... I know... I'm silly, but man it made me love Twilight all over again. I'd love a few spin-offs with other characters... like Alice (as there seems to be some slight additional foreshadowing in this book about her).

Camille I love it too !! Twilight is my comfort saga and I read the draft multiple times, which I loved so I was really hyped but also nervous to see if it would meet my expectations.

I think it is one of the best books of the saga. I even like it better than Twilight (the original one haha). And definitely the first "... from [...] pov" book that I've liked. I read it in 1 day !! I wish Stephenie Meyer would write New Moon from Edward's pov but she already said it's not going to happen...

I wish that too, but I'd even take a different character POV for New Moon. The most obvious choice is Jacob....

I have to say that New Moon was always my favorite book of the saga, but I think Midnight Sun replaced it... or at least tied.

Sarah I'm reading Midnight Sun right now too, it's so nostalgic for me. It really takes you back to those feelings when you first discovered Twilight, the mere mention of it's name would make you go weak at the knees lol I think Stephanie could do what L.J.Smith did with Vampire Diaries and give us an entire franchise of POV from each character. I would like to hear Rosalie's story from the beginning, whose story would you like to hear?

What I have found is my taste in reading material since Twilight has changed dramtically and I think that's all to do with age lol I'm in my thirties now and I need a bit more meat on the bone when it comes to supernatural romance if you know what I mean. That's not to say I'm not enjoying this trip down memory lane reading Midnight Sun, I just need it a little darker now lol.

Sarah My greatest Love will always be "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" aka True Blood! That bookk series and TV series introduced me to the real dark side of Vampires combined with tangible sexual tension. That was the series that changed everything for me, it left me with a thirst I still haven't been able to quench lol

Claire I read this draft several times years ago. How different is it now? Worth the reread?

message 12: by SJ (new)

SJ I'm a little past halfway through and I'm absolutely in love. Edward was always my favorite. The watching Bella sleep thing was weird, but for a guy who can read people's minds it's understandable that privacy isn't his thing. This book gives so much background to the Cullen family and it gives us more a of peak into their backstories. I also love how in this book we see that Edward didn't just notice Bella because her mind was blocked to him. It was because of how selfless she is. I didn't like the whole "monster" thing where Edward was trying to fight "the monster" inside him. I don't think Stephenie really committed to that so it was kind of cringey.

If I recall correctly, the draft that got leaked was unfinished. So I'd say yeah, it's worth it if you want to read the rest of the story from Edwards perspective.

I enjoyed it. However, I found it really difficult relate Bella's character from his perspective. I realized there was a lot of narration in the first Twilight book, so we get to understand where she's coming from and why she takes action at times. In Edwards book, she's a very silent character.
