I'm the author and I appreciate this review, not only because it's positive (I love nice reviews of course) but because Roxanne picked up on something that is important to me in writing the book. It is, in many ways, an awakening story, a coming to consciousness. The hero is a dog, because I write about dogs, but it is not a dog story in many ways. It is about a sentient being whose emotional life exists outside of the consciousness of people around her, and who evolves. I think it goes well beyond a dog story. And I was pleased that this reviewer picked up on that. I do not read sappy dog stories myself, and hope I didn't write one.
