Yeah for the fun factor (plus free exercise of lifting his books, if you don't do the weightless e-version). But there must be something profound about the core of human nature in the retention of beer drinking in our far future.

Ha! That's a good point Michael! There's definitely an element of "the more things change, the more they stay the same." satire there.
"The Dreaming Void is a mere 607 pages long, practically a pamphlet by his standard! "
And the early SF classics are leaflets :]

They really knew how to pack a lot into a few pages in those days :)
I want to read Vinge, Reynolds, and Hamilton in that order, but I guess I have to read the Commonwealth Saga first, and those books are massive! But I will be listening to the audiobooks, so maybe that will help. Sounds like a fun large-scale space opera romp!

I think the Commonwealth saga is his best work. Long but quite fast moving!
HEY APATT!!!! I just bought all these books! They just came in the mail! I also bought all the other books in the commonwealth series/universe. What do you think of the series? I'm excited to read it, seeing your 5 star (I didn't read the review itself for obvious reasons) But I'm curious what you think of the series! I've got 2 Asimov books of the 16 to finish in the robot/foundation universe, then it's onto something else!

Whoa! That's a lot of reading Jon. Enough to keep you busy for the next decade or so. They are all good books that you mentioned. Can't go wrong with Asimov or Hamilton!
Who would you compare Peter F. Hamilton to, in terms of style if you could? I read a few pages of one book to "test it out" and liked it. Curious which authors you think he resemble stylistically though
Great review Apatt! I made the stupid error if starting reading PFH with this book. I didn't realise it was a sequel series to the Commonwealth saga. But, it didn't take away from the enjoyment if the book. Unfortunately, the book is now in 4 pieces as it started falling apart on me - it was already 2nd hand when I got it, so i guess I'll be looking for a new copy to start my PFH collection. I will be visiting the Commonwealth saga very soon though.

Thank you, Robert. Yes The Dreaming Void is book 1 of a new (2nd) series after all, so PFH made sure it can be read without the first 2 Commonwealth book. He's clever like that 😀
I salute you, I was an hour or two in to the book when I came here and checked, Why in Ozzie's name is this book so boring (which I feel worth mentioning is that I felt the same when I picked up "Pandora's star"), Anyways your review was So spot on that I second every word you said to the last.
P.S. only the start bits of the first book in both was a bit boring but once you get into it... Oh boy
P.P.S. So they're not boring :)
