This was really well written - it gave me another perspective of the book. I read it as though Anna fought so hard to 'free' herself of being the constant donor, and it was all for nothing given that she died on the way home from the court house. But your view of one of them having to die has opened my eyes. Thank you!
And also what you said about the movie is true - the movie (although I haven't seen it) is about cancer, where as the book is more about the story BEHIND the cancer.
Meh, I thought the book ending was a cop out. It would have been braver of the author to let Anna decide she will not give her kidney since her life matters too and you know, bringing designer babies into the world for spare parts is incredibly wrong. When Anna dies and Kate lives, the parents essentially get away with having a spare parts child and the difficult choices don't need to be made anymore. Oh, also, the ending is very unrealistic and yes, in this case, it's important since the book tried to be realistic about everything, including the names of the chemotherapy drugs.
