I rather found Moby Dick to be straight-forward. He uses vocabulary that is uncommon now, but nothing complicated or vague compared to some others I have read.
Give Moby Dick another go. I didn't get past page two either the first time round. But it's not a hard read. When you do get to the end you'll be sorry.
(by the way it's not about fishing apparently)
"Gadsby, the champion of youth" he didn't make it to the second word. LOL
