Thanks, I've tried those too. I've just never liked Asimov's writing style, and put down Foundation after about 100 pages or so. And that was when I was more compulsive about finishing books that I'd gotten that far into.
On this science fiction related note, I will recommend the "Culture" series by Iain Banks (starting with "Consider Phlebas") and the "Ringworld" series by Larry Niven.
