This is what I thought. I also think it will be better just as a book. There is too much profound and complex parts of the book can't be captured on screen.
I actually didn't care for it as a book and think it'll make a better movie since they'll be able to expand on the idea and fill in some of the gaps left by the author.
Yes, they probably will film it in black and white if they want to keep with the whole thing in the book where Jonas starts to see color. Or actually, they'll probably do something more of a sepia tone. But it's not as if it couldn't work. Worked pretty well in the Wizard of Oz.
No music in their world, does not mean there's no music in ours. People get the difference between dramatic music for effect and music that the characters are hearing.
But for effect they might just not have any music until Jonas starts to gain some memories. I think that could actually have a great impact and get the real depth of what's going on, across.
I agree with you, Kristen, that there is a great opportunity to expand on the gaps, and it would be wonderful if they did so. As a former screenwriter, I would have loved to be the scribe assigned this adaptation, and can only hope, as a movie buff and lover of story, that the film will be great. Weinstein(producer) is known for making Oscar-winning films, and with Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges in it, who knows... there just might be hope after all. Guess we'll see come August.
