I disagree. Many current Holocaust books are just as moving, if not more poignant.
I think he is saying if you wrote a Holocaust story that took place today because that was the original question... writing TKAM as if it took place today. But I think the comparison is off. The Holocaust is over but racism is still going strong.
It's possible but it would haveto be a very creative new insight we haven't seen. I just read a Holocaust novel called "Samson" which was a total rip off of all other Holocaust pieces I found it to be junk. But the movie Life is Beautiful showed us there is still juice left in the topice, it just needs to be creative, fresh and non plagiaristic.
Today, racists carry a Scarlet "R" on their shoulders so the story might be is has the pendulum swung too far?
