message 1: by Laney (new)

Laney Ching Mockingjay was bad because she pretty much killed everybody's favorite characters, Prim, and Finnick. Then she destroyed the Gatniss fandom by sending him off to like district two.

Krishop Maybe the point is that in a war, there tends to be a lot of pointless death. In a war, a lot of people die and it doesn't make any sense to the people who are left behind.

Krishop Also, Tris's death was anything BUT pointless. She went through so much character growth and learned about real sacrifice. The way Allegiant was ended gave honor to her character and how far she had come. It was also a good way for Veronica to get a good insight into how people handle death. No other author really takes their main character out of the story, and this way, she can really show how much importance Tris had to so many people's lives and how strong the relationship between her and Tobias was.

Jennifer I agree there was nothing wring with the end of Mockingjay. I know Finnick and Prim died but it made the book interesting. Allegiant was devastating although I understand why Veronica Roth did it because she posted on her blog about it.

message 5: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea I agree. I enjoyed Mockingjay better then Allegiant. I didn't really even like Allegiant, I felt like it was boring and did not really have a story to it like the other two books. And "Gatniss" never would have worked. They were too different. Katniss had been around too much blood shed that she wanted it to end, she didn't want a war. Gale wanted a war and wanted to fight, even if that meant killing the district 13 people and kids. I just felt there was more meaning behind Mockingjay then Allegiant had.

J A I don't know why they even bothered to continue with Tobias's pathetic story after Tris was gone. Pointless.

Kristen Laney, I never really liked Prim all that much. Even when she died, I was only sad because Katniss was. In my opinion she was a pretty flat character. Not that I wished her dead or anything, but I wasn't that heartbroken either. I haven't heard too many complaints about her death from others either.
Yes, I was upset about Finnick, but he was a soldier and he died to save countless others. I don't count that as a flaw. Sad, but not a flaw.
Gale's ending made sense to me. Yeah, I was sort of rooting for him and Katniss, but I also think they were a little too similar. They banded together out of necessity, but I don't know that a romance between them would have been all that exciting. Both for us as the readers or for either of them actually living it.
I also appreciated the irony with Prim's death and the way Gale eliminated himself from Katniss' life. They were both sad events, but ironic and unexpected. And I can't really say they're flaws. Just because a story doesn't turn out the way you wanted, doesn't make it a bad ending. At least not to me.

Kristen Anna, I get that war causes alot of pointless death. I don't count that as a flaw in a book about war. But in Allegiant, Roth only killed off all the people she killed off for effect. It was forced and overdone.
My problem with the end of Allegiant was not that Tris dies. Or that she dies for someone else who doesn't deserve it. My problem was the unrealistic and contrived situation in which it happened. Not to mention the fact that the guy who actually killed her never would have even thought it an option. Even if he had known what she was doing, which he did not.
What it comes down to is that Roth wanted the book to turn out a certain way and forced it to be that way without alot of thought to logic and flow. It had alot of potential to be really great if it was done right.

Kristen Jennifer, i get why she killed off Tris too, I just don't think it was done well. But beyond that, the book was terrible....

message 10: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Chelsea, I agree. Allegiant was boring and nothing like the other books. I spent most of the book waiting for something interesting to happen and for it to somehow come together and make sense. It never did...

message 11: by Kristen (new)

Kristen J.A., i agree. I can't even remember any of his story outside of the three main books.

message 12: by Hannah (new)

Hannah ALLEGIANT!!!!! Katniss kind of had a good ending in district twelve....besides the Peeta thing. TRIS HAD TO DIE TO SAVE HER BROTHER WHOM SHE HATED......And Fourtris was ruined. Also all the friends she made. The thing that made me cry the most was when Tobias found out, and was ingulfed in grief and depression. Enough to almost erase his memory. The first time around at this part, I could barely see the page through my tears. What was even more unbearable was the epilogue. I know he missed her, but it hurt my heart that he moved on. i know people get over stuff like that in at least a year, but Tris felt SO real to me, that it was WAY too soon to be able to laugh or smile. I'm STILL crying over Allegiant, while in Mokingjay, I didn't shed a tear.
