Jennifer Potash I mean if it was set in present day

Laurel I think people would be quicker to say "this would never happen", certainly. The character of Atticus would also seem less fresh and radical because it's not unique to be anit-racism these days. I think a lot of what makes it a powerful novel was the time period in which the story was set and conceived, because things like the events of the book were relatively common and widespread. Context is important, and without the same setting or context the book wouldn't be as powerful.

Laurel Edit: Actually, if the book was set in the present, it might force people to examine how racism is still present today. Just food for thought.

Mang this book still fun if it's read in the present day, but if this book write at this present time, it won't be the same :)

Photo Modivation Think about how diferent the characters would be.

Janet If there were a SYG aspect added to the theme it certainly would be relevent. It also could use some of the aspects of that small town in Ohio, Steubenville?, or an Innocence Project twist. Any of those additions would bring the book into the 21t century.
