Chaya But the ship was on its way to Hokitika, so what would Staines have been doing in another town?

Chaya Or did he travel back and forth from/to Hokitika unknowingly in the crate, to be saved by Moody on the return trip?

Chaya Thanks, Sarina

Sarina Hmmmm.... I think you're right he may have just made a return trip back to Hokitika then. I may have to go reread some parts to double check :S While I was reading I was pretty sure he must have been in the crate because of the passage near the end about the docks. Otherwise I can't think what else Moody could have seen... Ahh brain overload! I hope someone else has an opinion on this as well to help clear things up

Chaya I know...yours is probably the right answer, since there's no other explanation given. Actually I found that to be quite an anti climax, especially because Moody goes into quite dramatic detail about the apparition, and then the whole thing's dropped from the book.

Eric He was put into the crate which was carried back and forth from Hokitika. He was being nourished by Anna which is what kept him alive. The blood appearing suddenly when Moody saw him was from him Anna shooting herself when she was with Pritchard.

Redredwine I agree with Eric
