Michele Harrod I think in this instance people are simply sharing their opinion, which is what the site is about - there are so many books to read, this is where "like-minded" people can share opinions - hence why you befriend those who seem to like the same books, and don't - for those who have opposing tastes?! So they can avoid wasting time on books that don't serve their personal tastes. And they are entitled to that.

Actually, it's 'opinion Nazis' that I find amusing. Surely Goodread members have as much right to their own opinion (and to write it, here) as Authors have to write whatever they wish. When people are paying money for that writing, they have an extra right, I think, to seek reviews before they hand over their hard earned money. Or invest their time.

And of course he can write what he likes, this thread actually gave many the opportunity to reassure readers that whilst this one was not his usual style, to try the others. Because the others are fantastic. So if they shared this opinion, hopefully, they will go and try the others and share the love of Mr Coehlo's many other works. Which may in fact have ensured the author kept a lot more readers than he would have otherwise. Which in my book - is GOOD for an author. And a reader!!

Dr. Phoenix Tastes, like opinions are all individual. You are correct. I am just taken back as some of the vehemence displayed in regards to opinions. Speaking of opinions, I think I shall refrain in the future offering take consolation merely with standardized reviews. As for friending, that was never my purpose for being here rather to keep a virtual library and a record of my readings mostly. Thanks for your comment however.
