I reckon you meant the English translation wasn't too good in terms of the language, didn't you? I read it in Russian originally and found it flawless, to be honest. I wish I could read Remarque in original. Totally agree, Remarque books have enormous power and a sense of reality.
Ah, the original German is even better. For example, the day Paul dies the report "All's Quiet on the Western Front" is actually "In the west, nothing new," which is wonderfully ironic and tragic.
