I completely agree the movie doesn't seem to really capture charlies character in the book very disappointing.
The movie kinda made it look like Helen was molesting him while driving (at one point)and that was why she got in the car wreck. Other scenes made it look look like she left him on a street corner. It was weird.
I saw the movie first and then read the book and I thought the movie was a good and semi-faithful adaptation, but the book was definitely better.
I didn't like the movie at all! The book is way better, seeing that they skipped a lot of important things in the movie.
