you think king's childhood is mucked up? that did not come across to me. he grows up poor, sure, but he does not sound unhappy (or happy) about it. His love of Hatecraft, Poe, and splatterpunk movies is what I think inspires his genre writing.
Good point Kay, but I did see a lot of angst in his lack of a father and series of weird babysitters...
