Yes, I think I'm leaning more toward what your saying...it was frustrating that Tessa got to be with both of them...and now I'm confused on who was the "main love interest"? Was it will or Jem and who did/does she love more?...although I was pretty satisfied with the end of the series...

Samantha The Escapist Upvoted. I hate when authors break their own rules, and Jem being a silent brother now seems like it only ever was an excuse to keep him in stasis till Will was dead and Tessa was horny again.

Jeni Thanks! I know it's not a popular view, but you hit the nail on the head. In Stasis. Cheat!

K totally agree!

Kirstyn I disagree. Tessa lost Will, and she will lose Jem. She will never truly get a happy ending, and it was 70 years after his death, I think she should get the chance to move on. Do you fault Magnus for moving on after his various partner's deaths?

Jeni That's not what I said at all. I said the author putting Jem in suspended animation so Tessa doesn't have to sacrifice her love for him is a cheat.

She never moved on from Jem. She had Will, then she got Jem, too.

As for Magnus, I don't understand the comparison. Alec wasn't frozen while Magnus lived with someone else until they died and then thawed out so Magnus could have him too.

You say she never gets a happy ending, but I disagree. She gets TWO. She had a long marriage with Will and they were happy. She had children and grandchildren that were a joy to her. Now she can be with Jem and start all over. That's too many happy endings.

Kirstyn She is immortal, so she will not only lose Jem, but all the children she may have with him. It's bittersweet at best, though sorry for misunderstanding your comment. I don't think it was to put him in suspended animation( since he interacted with both her and Will) he never truly wanted to move on, but I guess we will have to agree to disagree.^^

Jeni I agree that Jem never moved on, but she never did, either. Meeting every year kept that relationship fresh.

I don't mean emotionally in suspended animation-I mean, immortal so he can be miraculously cured as she becomes available. Now he's human again and they can be together. It's too neat and just felt contrived.

I don't mind that we disagree, by the way. I'm not at all vicious about it! I just felt very strongly that CC took advantage of me as a reader to give in to the pressure of the fans.

I don't mind crying over a book, but I'd rather cry because Tessa lost Will, and eventually her family, and could never have Jem.

Kirstyn I don;t mind disagreement either. I enjoy a good debate. Maybe I didn't mind the happiness of it all because i'm a hopeless romantic and was so sad about Will(Jem playing the Violin, my heart!) I needed a bit of happiness.

Samantha The Escapist Haha yeah Kirstyn I'm still with Jeni on this one, I found it took away from my experience with the whole trilogy just because it made me wonder why I ever spent any time caring how things turned out for Tessa because she never lost anything.

You can say that now she'll burry two husbands and a bunch of children but the fact that she chose to have them in the first place negates the tragedy of it. She could have chosen not to love, but it says right in the book that it was worth it. So as far as I'm concerned that's not even sad - it may seem sad, but the happiness still outweighs the sadness so she still ends up "in the black" so to speak.

Jeni Found the term I was looking for: Deus ex machina. That's what she did to give us a happy ending. I was happier when Tessa had to make the same kind of choices all the rest of us have to.

Jeni Also, the more I think of it, the more selfish Tessa seems to become. She wants a life and children with Will, yet abandons them later on. What grandkid doesn't wish they had their grandma growing up?

Now, she is going to do it again with Jem. I don't care was CC says in response to her critics, this ending is just too much for me. Especially after a really good book!
