I've pondered that before. Life is pretty short. We're only going to be able to read so many books in our lifetime. By what criteria do we choose to read what we do and is it a good criteria?
Fully agree with Dave. You start reading, you press forward, and there's time your innerself will say "enough". Then you put it down and move on, no need to look back. (Two I've put down were the acclaimed D. Quixote and 100 years of Solitude.)
There is actually only one book I've ever given up on, Sense and Sensibility.
