Debra Even though he at first tried to convince Wickham to leave Lydia, he was the one who paid Wickham an annual sum to marry Lydia. He arranged for his position in the military so that Wickham could somewhat support a wife. He also was in attendance at the wedding as a witness. It's the reason Elizabeth is so grateful to Darcy.

Alec Maclean He only did that so that when Wickham went broke, his sister in law wouldn't have to live in poverty, he didn't want them married in the first place.

Debra I said Wickham made the arrangements for the marriage. I never said he wanted them to marry.

Debra I meant to say, Darcy made the arrangements for the marriage. I never said he wanted them to marry.

message 5: by Nathalia (new)

Nathalia He would not have wished Wickham to be in Elizabeths and consequently in his family, but since they ran away together, he clearly wanted them to marry. Having a "fallen woman" in her immediate family would have made the other sisters tainted, and no respectable man could have married them.
