Dhfan4life It's funny you say that. As I too didn't like the Chosen at first and only liked Payne. But as the series goes along, I see they have had their place in the world just like the BDB does. It is just rather unfortunate that she has such grown men running away from these women. Or just using them as a pack of cattle to feed from. And even worse with Layla who was specifically trained in the sensual arts and all that to begin with. So personally either I think Ward got ahead of herself when writing them in or she meant them to add another layer of intrigue to the story, and yet still abandoned them. Cause frankly I feel bad that they are so revered and yet have no real lives.

Del Layla irritated me so much when she thought that by losing the baby she had given up her virginity to Qhuinn for nothing. I find that strange considering she's thrown herself to Rhage and John Mattews in earlier books and wanted to put into practice her Eros training. It's JR Ward forgot in L@L that Layla was trained as a Eros and had been bitching and moaning about not being put to use by the Brothers in earlier books.

Dhfan4life Yea, but you have to remember the chosen have a very narrow scoop of reference on the world too. And given that all her hope went into wanting that baby and then losing it, there in likely made it register for her that she took a big risk in regards to giving herself to a friend and not a brother like she was born to do. And how that would forever change the sacredness of her role in their world. I mean so far in the series she may have thrown herself at the other guys as was her duty/role to do so. But once she looked around and realized the other guys were happy with non-chosen women and she backed off of them. I think it finally hit her that the only thing she had left was her status. So if there was no baby, then she would have risked her status for nothing in truth. Technically I see it as no different than if JM, Blay, and Qhuinn got all that class training on how to be the next set of brothers. But never not once got a chance to fight at all. Which would really suck. Actually come to think of it. Makes me wonder how many of the other students in their classes are still bummed that they were taking those classes and never really got a chance to fight. Really sucks to be them too.

I've never seen it that way or thought about her loss of her Chosen status. I guess my annoyance with the character blinded my judgement.

I wonder how JR Ward will resolve the Layla/Xcor romance. I have a feeling she will dragb it over the course of a few books like she did with Marissa/Butch and Qhuinn/Blay.

ETA, I've wondered about the training programme. In the epilogue of Lover Awakened she has a student witness Zsadist with Nahla and Bella so I've always thought that the programme would continue at some stage. It seems like a plot hole as more time passes by and it is not resumed.

Dhfan4life It's ok Desiree. I think for a lot of us passionate readers our judgment can get rather blinded at times. I have my own blindness where Wrath and Beth are concerned too. But as the time stretches on between books and I think back over the stories more. I realize a bit of hind sight and viewing things from another perspective really helps me see various characters in a different way or as close to what I think Ward intended the character role and feelings to be like. But yea I often miss out on things the first time around cause I'm so present in liking certain characters vs others that I miss things the first time around.

Yea, me too on the Layla and Xcor front. I still have a feeling in one way or another she is going to either have Layla pull Xcor and the bastards more into working with the BDB guys in some way or another. Or Layla and the other chosen are just going to rebel and find their own mates. Either way it's going to be awesome.

Yea, I've wondered about the training program as well. I hate that it has turned into such a dead end as well. I really hope though what all went down in Lover at Last wakes up Wrath and the other guys enough to get off their buns and take a more active role again in helping the other vamps. I mean it is all well and good to take out the lessers for sure. But the vampires as a whole aren't living under ground and there is only a few of them that the BDB has to defend against. They have a whole society going on with other issues than just protection. So I think the guys really all need to unpark their behinds and be more active/progressive about how they help everyone. Even the glymera regardless of how bitchy they can be. They are still Wrath's people and he should figure out ways to help them in one way or another.
