Maria Not all teens hate classic novels! I have loved the Hobbit since my dad read it to me as a little kid.

Erica I think the age has more to do with maturity of choosing words and opinions to post more so than whether or not they liked the book. My Dad read LOTR to me as a kid as well, and forced myself to read through the trilogy as a 5th grader! Which I admit was quite a challenge and likely didn't understand the half of it. :)

Tom King There Maria and Erica is the key. When your parents read you good literature as a kid, your taste for anything less is spoiled. To appreciate the Hobbit one must be a reader, capable of reading well and with depth of understanding. Much of what passes for a good book these days consists of prurient naughty bits connected by slim ropes of narrative. If find things like Twilight tedious because the author is so obviously appealing to teenaged hormones rather than to any sort of intellect.
