Joana I totally agree! Even though I think I prefered Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights was excelent! The plot was terrific and I think the gloomy, dark side of the characters were a great plus to the novel.. it was just the way they were and it made everything very interesting and extraordinary.

Margaret DC Furthermore, the moors of England are the perfect setting for the dark and recurring nightmare that Heathcliff lives after Catherine dies, by the constant voice of Catherine he hears in the winds of the moors.

Christine Z Mason I agree with Nishtha, I've always found Jane Eyre compelling, dark and dramatic, but Wuthering Heights is a beautifully written story with a lot of depth.

message 4: by Kiran (new)

Kiran I agree. The book wouldn't have been so intriguing if Heathcliff was handsome, honest and an angel of God. Its mystery is what makes me read the book again and again.

Maria Wuthering Heights. Such passion and Heathcliff is far more memorable than the teasing Mr Rochester (who has his own measure of cruelty in his character). Heathcliff's love for Cathy is unconditional and life long. Jane always seemed to me to be too good to be believable anyway. At times she really does irritate!

Jazz Singh Wuthering Heights - it's passionate, romatic and about revenge, too

Janine Jane Eyre by far over Wuthering Heights.

message 8: by P. (new)

P. Rose Jane Eyre is the book I feel closest to, but Wuthering Heights is so different from any other novel. You suggest it more accurately portrays humanity, Yukti, but I see the characters in WH as wild things-- which makes me love the book all the more. I can relate to Jane. I can't relate to any characters in WH.

Janine I definitely relate to Jane everytime I re-read the book 0r.. watch the many movies made over and over. I do love The Orson Wells portrayal the best though. It's extremely Intense...

message 10: by Robin (new)

Robin Adkisson-jackson Sorry Janine, I thought the Orson Wells movie left out way too much important information in the book.

message 11: by Teresinha (new)

Teresinha Lara Jane Eyre in one of my favorites. I'll never chance it for Wuthering Heights.

Lisa Embury I've loved Jane Eyre since I was a child. I reread it as I grew into different phases in life. It has a happy ending which boosts the reader, too. By the way, I loved the name Adele since I was a child and said then I'd name my daughter that name. Years later, Adelle, with two L's, is one of my twins' middle name. I do like Wuthering Heights and always have.

Karleigh Ryan I would be a bit biased if I had read wuthering heights because I practically grew up reading Jane Eyre. I'm currently rereading it now.
