Yes. I agree. The tiger/ animals story was Pi's way of dealing with his tragic reality.
The original question implied that the tiger WAS real, at least for the purpose of this particular exploration.

I do believe his story was true. I think it's not that difficult to believe if you have faith in his story.
The original question implied that the tiger WAS real, at least for the purpose of this particular exploration.
