He IS actually sending them to a real person.
I think you have something with the therapy POV, but it has to be either someone he made up, and created a storyline, or himself if it is a therapy tool
That is a good question! Im not so sure about that one, either. I think, it is a mixture of both. Because even when writing the letters, he tries to keep his privacy. So maybe it is a person he saw. Maybe a kid from school or a stranger from the supermarket. Someone he saw (or maybe sees on a regular bases) but doesn't really know. So he has this person and created his own character for this person. Like, he created his own "safe place", but gave it a face. Just because he is so awkward and clueless around people and he needed someone he can trust. Does that make any sense?
yes, after losing a baby this is one of the techniques they suggested, to write letters to the lost baby. obviously it works best if you've named them you have someone to address it to. I write them in a journal/diary. I don't write often, just as he doesn't, but I find myself writing when something big happens or on holidays. Strangely, I think it could be Patrick's boyfriend. I don't think he would say anything if he did figure it out. Not really sure why I thought he could be writing to that guy in particular.
I never thought about Patrick's Boyfriend. Simply, because Charlie sounds rather affecionate in his letters. And I don't think he feels that way towards him. But I think I need to think about this a little! It is a nice twist. And I really hope, your journal helps you and gives you strength!
Tessa... agreed. the sexual stuff between him and patrick was more charlie being overly.... nice i suppose.... or socially manipulated. time line wise... it is either retrospective, which in that case it could be someone he met in high school, or i could be that teacher he was bounding with... but if not it has to be someone in 8th grade (middle school) since he was starting a new yr.
