Actually, Thenardier knew Jean was still alive. How he knew all the details about him, I don't know. Also, I didn't mean that I thought JV should have lived happily ever after. But I thought the ending was just too lame and predictable. If he had moved in with the kids and then gotten killed in an accident or something, I wouldn't have had a problem with that ending.
