You have to take the movie as a totally separate event from the book. I quite liked it, but there were LOTS of major changes to the story. I thought the cast was great but just know ahead of time that it's quite different.
I agree with Shannon. I saw the movie before reading the book and there are many differences-- enough so that I was able to view them as separate stories. Both are quite good in their own ways.
Don't watch the movie! It ruins EVERYTHING!
