I agree. And I think it's probably the best to end like that, just to leave disappointment for the readers here and hope in the third book. And you can't really believe him if he hides himself from you and cruelly pushes you away. Just to be fair, Jem has nobody left except Tessa, it's heartbreaking if one refuses his purpose. After what Will discovered, he still can have his family back, and his sister already.
