Those all are very valid. I think one problem with SM is that she doesn't kill off any of her main characters, which is a weakness as a writer. I never thought about the family never thanking Alice...you are right, that is rude. I think the book hinted that Bella will always have to come up with excuses to not ever see her mother again.
Leah does mention that she's going to try to control her emotions and purge her wolf. Once she does that she could probably settle down with someone. Possibly even be imprinted on.
