James tracks scents, not brain power. He also relied on human technology - he had Victoria break into the school to locate Bella's mom's address. Nowhere does the series ever, ever imply Emily is Claire's mom? And why would it be a big deal for Sam to wonder where Claire's mom is? Maybe he wants her mom to come pick her up?
In BD at that point, Bella is a vamp whose new power is shielding all other powers, so the electrical current wouldn't get her. As for the emotions part, Jasper could always affect that - from what I interpreted, he controlled the body's sensation of emotion. Maybe I'm wrong; it has been awhile since I've read the series.
If I remember correctly, Jasper's powers of controlling emotion were physical or physiological(?) powers. Meaning that he slows down heart rates and breathing to calm and speeds them up to incite.
@MochaSpresso - Thanks, I was thinking his powers were more about controlling the body's sensations rather than brain emotions.
Page 756 of Breaking Dawn states that James had a power. Super smell and use of technology is not a power since all vampires have incredible sense of smell and have fast brains to work with computers. Breaking Dawn p. 155 "Far away, to low for anyone but just us two to hear it over the waves, a howl rose out of the forest. "Dang, that's Sam," Quil said. His hands flew up to touch Claire, as if making sure she was still there. "I don't know where her mom's at!" Implying that Sam is looking for Claire's mom.
I didn't check to be sure yet, but wasn't Sam telling Quil that he needs him and that he should take Claire to her mom and come join the other wolves?
I might have misread that part, but the James one is definitely a plot hole.
Actually, the James one isn't. Demetri is a mental tracker while James is a physical tracker.
"Mental" meaning that he can track you anywhere in the world through your thoughts once he has met you. He was never able to track Bella. James relies on physical senses to track.
Mocha is right. James used sense of smell and Victoria breaking into the school to find out Bella's previous address in Phoenix.
Here's a question; Bella encounters a vamp that has telekinesis -the mental power to control physical movements and matter -liquid, solids, plasma, and gas. Immunity or no?
