Well, Ethan was taken by the Iron fey. There are still a lot of things we don't know about them, I'm sure. Not to mention that they tortured him. Perhaps this in itself was enough to give him the Sight. Traumatic events and all that.
I reread the first book and the only reason he has sight is because he's a little kid; all little kids have sight. but still; did Ethan just keep his sight because he remembered them?
Becouse, like Grimalkin explains, some humans are born with the Sight permamently
