Exactly. I loathe some of the characters... However, if I don't dislike (to whatever degree) at least one character in any given book, said book just won't pass muster. If I want to read about a world/universe/whatever that's perfect.. Never mind the point is that I DON'T want to read that. My life is full of people I don't think highly of, and they're just as necessary as those I respect. What's a protagonist without small miserable people (those from the Hollow and Tibbet's Brook are absolutely part of this category.. Harl, anyone? Good grief) to push against? Don't mistake me, I think the first was leagues better than the second, and I'm only halfway through the third but I feel no different about it. And I'm rambling. Meh
