Claudine If possible listen to the audiobook(s) read by John Lee. He is amazing.

Donna Pillars is fantastic...by all means read it first

message 4: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie They are so very different--one history, one fantasy. I felt like I learned something after reading Pillars, although it certainly was entertaining too. Game of Thrones--I was hooked on the HBO series first, then went to the books. I'm not sure I would be AS invested in Game of Thrones had I not had the cinematic visuals to go with it. But that's because my memory is terrible and I can't keep all the secondary characters straight! (Picturing faces helped.)

Geri Hoekz I'd personally read GoT although I liked Pillars when I read it when it first came out. Even if you don't read Pillars, do watch the miniseries!

Terence M [on a brief old bloke's hiatus] What Claudine, Donna, Bonnie, Dave, Amy and Kathy said!

Jeanette Smith I have not read Games of Thrones (although it has been sitting on my bedside table for a year). I did read Pillars of the Earth and loved it. I gave it to my family, they read it and gave it to their friends. I vote to start with Pillars of the Earth. Happy reading regardless of the one you choose.
